Geriatric Glastonbury

    Hi,
Upon my return from Rock Werchter, a cheaper, dryer, bigger, sunnier, more alcohol infused version of Oxegen in Belgium, my father was struck with jealousy.
He insists that he would love the idea of camping for a weekend at a major festival somewhere in europe.
His problem; he hates modern pop and rock music,
so does anyone have any ideas or knowledge of a major festival in europe which would suit his age-group, he is into jazz music, as well as old rock stuff like the eagles and dire straits, but wants a big major festival, unlike the cork jazz festival etc.

Any ideas, he would be open to lots of music, once it is aimed at geriatrics like himself (mid-forties), thanks for any help,
I must appease him, before he sulks all summmer.;)

I think you answered the question yourself in the title of the thread. Glastonbury has plenty there to amuse every age group and musical taste that he need never go anywhere near any of the main stages.

I'm not too sure what is on when now, but your best place to find out about the less mainstream festivals around Europe would be here.

lol @ "geriatric" glastonbury. However old your dad is, he's not likely to be out of place there, that's for sure, but neither are the toddlers.

Glasto traditionally has an "old-timer" slot on the main stage, just look at past reviews, but if he's lookng for a particular type of act, you're prob better going to the bands' official sites and checking out their tour dates/venues. Remember tickets for Glasto go on sale before line-up is announced so although there's lots of rumours and some bands let the cat out of the bag, you can't be sure who's playing until they actually arrive on their allotted stage.

How about North Sea Jazz in The Hague? Plenty of legal weed smoking options for your Dad too.
