Browsing the green hobby site looking at off-road cars and found this. I'm not crazy on the idea of spending in the region of €500 on a savage so i have been looking at getting something like a Jato or Rush Evo and this seems to be as good and its 4WD as apposed to RWD? anyone any opinions on it? I heard carson is the european arm of tamiya just like CEN and Kyosho are the same?
    http://www.greenhobbymodel.com/CarsonStorm.htm

It's €340 all in without the radio fitted with a 1L of fuel or €370 with it fitted

    or theres this from boystoyz:

Same price, both RTR etc, 1/10 or 1/8 scale. The carson is a complete RTR which is aways a plus. The other one might run into E400 before you get it up and running. But the 1/8 scale buggy has a better engine.

what ya mean? are they both not fully RTR? the 1/8 says its fully factory assembled with radio???

ANy idea what they are like to use? speed/fun factor wise?

Sorry, i ment to add this one too:

1/8 scale is better but dearer. Both come RTR but the 1/8 scale is an incompleted RTR meaning you will have to buy fuel, glow ignighter, batterys etc.

Ah right, i get ya now sorry. whats the craic with using theese buggies/trucks on the beach? is it a no go or can ya get covers or what?to protect from sand i mean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

I wouldn't drive them on the beach as the salt water will fcuk them up(even the sand for that matter). Anytime mine is filty with muc and stuff I just take the body off and hose it down and spray wd40, then it would not corod or rust any parts.

i take it you take the radio gear off first? I remember seeing covers for the rally cars before to protect from dust but wasnt sure about the buggies. and i had seen pics where the cars are caked with dirt after a race so thought maybe they had covers or something.

Nope.......nothing happened its only if you fully submerge them in water for a few seconds.

ive seen lads put the reciever into a balloon or condom to protect it from rain too.

:D never heard of putting them in condoms, I have the carson stormracer, Its a good buggy overall but I messed with mine in a badway :( so i have prolems, tho other people here who have it/had it thinks its great and didnt have any prolemos :) I would go with the carson over the one on boystoys and boystoyz just arnt nearly as good as green hobby when it comes to suport, and probably parts ;-)
Coolwings has the spectre and will porbably recommend it :)

LMFAO.....condoms where did you pull that one out of?:D Do you mind me asking but what kind of budget are you looking at?

well the condom was only because he didnt wanna go into the shop and buy balloons. said it would make him look like a child buying party balloons.
The chap on the phone at green hobby said its the newest one they have in stock. the engine is a bit better in it he was saying. 340 seems ok if its as robust as say a jato. and i know theese are the style of buggies used for racing so i'm sure its got some pace. I was very close to saying fu(k it and just going and buying it there a little while ago but thought id wait nd see if anyone had expierence with one first.

well 350 is the sort of budget i was looking at. my dad could be going to the states but i'm not sure when so dunno whether i can wait that long.

There are a few nice stuff on tower aswel.

I'd recommend the carson if you get it rtr. Have owned both models here's the fun factors atx check it out in action here : http://www.stevetrek.com/movies/miscvids.html Scroll down to the video entitled the joyride
The carson is faster and a better design in my opinion. Though the battery compartment is a tad tight and a pain if you're constantly taking the battery pack out. Make sure you tighten up stuff after running her too. Other than that I dont really have any complaints about it. What would tip the scales for me would be the customer support and spare parts you will get from Green Model. The guys there have a lot of experience and are more than willing to share it.

well lads, i went to oxegen after getting a last minute ticket and spent a load of money and im off out again tuesday night for my birthday so the buggy will have to wait another while but it'l most likely be the carson that i get mainly coz i don't like boys toyz and green hobby seem to be well rated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

Eaze of the booze lad or they'll be no buggy:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

    Nice Purchase. ;)

Having problems getting it to fire up though, usual 20 mins trying the first time, then once it got heated up it started no bother, i let it cool when the tank ran dry but then its the same story, pull cord hard to, well, pull, and it not firing up.

Try not to leave the tank run dry between runs as this in the Traxxas tends to let them run lean.
I am not sure how that buggy works but once you hit 1/2 tank in the Traxxas they certainly run leaner..Hence higher temps.

Bring it in after a couple of minutes
    then shut it down
Top up the tank without letting it hit 1/2 and see if it gets any easier to start.

its run dry twice between tanks but the second time i didnt wait for it to cool as much and it started up straight away, i think i flooded it the first time, stopped it at half tank on tank 3 and re filling this time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

I'd agree with Vectra there my savage runs a tad lean when the tank is low. Nice purchase man dying to see her in action, there's a lot of compression in that engine, coolwings has the exact same model :) So when will we be seeing video then ? :D

not sure, need to get it run in first and then tear myself away from the field infront of my house where ill be terrorising sheep :D
Does coolwings not have the Stormracer, the 1/10 one?
Its a bitch to pullstart alright, need to get myself starterbox.

i went in with the intention that if i was to buy something it'd be the stormracer as its cheaper and i'll have as much fun chasing sheep and rallying about with that as the spectre, but then when i got in and he took out the spectre i had to get it. better ground clearence, wider wheel base, and of coarse the 3.5 engine. still feel a bit guilty with the bank account being 450 lighter but screw it. got it run in a took it for a bit of a light run about. its not yet dialed in just right as it seems to rev very high before it gets moving but once it does it shifts well. didnt have it at ful trottle much but still good fun. i put 5 tanks through it at idle alone. got about 2 foot high jump out of it too on the grass outside my house where the road meets it.took it well. need to go over the screws and bolts again as some dont have threadlock on them. lost a small nut from the steering servo arm just as i finished up and it started to piss rain so i didnt get to find it but i have loads of nuts that fit it so not a big deal. gonna take it to saint anns park on sunday when the track is open.
