The only thing around the hex is the wheel.

incorrect, the steering knuckle on the stormracer goes 'round the hex as well (in a way)

I'm fairly sure its not a full pace yet, the acceleration needs tweeking for sure. it should be launching of the line much faster then it is. anyone going to st anns park next week?

im working nights all week so as long as its not too early in the morning i should be free all week.
Its still running a bit too lean. Also, am i right in saying that the idel screw is to do with the acceleration problem?

run it rich!!! never run it lean its still a new engine, leave slightly on the rich side for about antoehr 12 tanks after run in then fine lean it out;)

its very slow to take off and when i go to open it up a bit the engine dies. thats coz its running too hot/lean right?

i looked up some tips and done the piunch test with the fuel line and the revs rose when i done it which acording to the guide i was reading ment it was running lean?

    Nope that always does it.

That engine is not run in on less than 3/4 gall of fuel.
And that's assuming you are throttling up and down all the time.
I would say keep it very rich for at least the first 12 tanks, and a little rich for the next 8 tanks.
Otherwise it will run very hot due to still being tight.

If it is too lean it will get hot and revs drop off rapidly and then the engine cuts out. If that happens, prime it immediately, and then draw the cooling fuel in with a gentle pull on the recoil start, (and no glowstart on) .

If it is appropriately rich (for running in) it "chugs" when you try to accellerate too quickly, as it takes a few seconds to take in the surplus fuel that builds up while running slow. Then after this "chugging" it clears itself and takes off like a scalded cat, but not half as hot as it would be on a leaner setting.

But later on (on a leaner setting) it will be faster still.

However driving fast on that leaner setting too soon overheats the parts, and pops your glowplugs.

well i havent been running it at more then half throttle yet. thats what it was doing coolwings, the chugging then it took off. i thought there was something wrong with it. its running very rich now anyway. ive had nearly half a gallon through it so far. it was cutting out when i would try to gun it but not anymore.

My Specter engine when new out of the box was very tight with very high compression.
To loosen it up needed a very rich setting and that made it almost flooded when starting.
So I would loosen the glowplug 1/10th turn, just enough to allow a bit of the excess compression to "bleed" under the glowplug washer with a fizzle sound.
this reduced the compression just enough to be kinder to my pullstart.
Everything got easier after approx 5-6 tankfulls.
I am at approx 10 tankfulls now, and it still needs to be a little rich, or it gets hot.

What you say about half throttle is dead right - at first mine would get hot on 3/4 throttle after about 1-2 minutes, (even at a rich setting) until I had got about 12 tanks of fuel through it. So I would give it a couple of laps on 3/4 throttle to warm it up, for a minute or so, then slow down and do some slow stuff up close, for another minute, then fast again.
That loosened it up more, and I could get full throttle at over 12 tanks, for about 2 minutes. (If I tried for longer it would induce a cut-out from heat) It still had a need for a rich setting even then. Only not so rich as before of course.
It smoothens more and gets really nice at about 15 tanks of fuel.

thats the same with mine. pull starter nearly broke my fingers when trying to start it. its getting smoother by the tank. i moulded a ramp yesterday by getting some hardboard and soaking it in water then using kerbing slabs from the garden to make a bend. gonna put some supports to the underside of it and should be class. not too steep not to high.
