Heh, this was something I meant to do a few years ago, signed up today under the name CuLT and joined the boards.ie team ;D

I have an XP2500+ with 1GB ram fileserver running 24/7 in my attic, the b*stard might as well do some REAL work :)
I'm a total noob to the minutae of configuring the client, but I have it set to do "big" work units, which I'm hoping is somehow more useful to the F@H crowd in Stanford.

its kinda there a long time now, its on a second Pc that shares this internet connection, I have even disabled the firewall before it was due TX the result. Its still sends in other results. It takes that PC bout two days for a unit, I dont really want to delete the unit.

    Any Ideeeeas lads?

I've been running rosetta and it assigns blocks of 8 hours and recently 2 hours.

But now I've tried BBC Climate change.

It's telling me that I've got 3229.38.43 hours to go and the dead line is in 21/2/2007

That's 134 days, it ain't going to be finished when the show starts on channel 4

My laptop used to squeal when I used a different AC adaptor.

Maybe wait till the weather gets colder again, it costs just as much to heat a room with a 2Kw heater as with 2Kw of computers.

Just joined the team, how do you find out your User Number? Running the service text client.

Ah I like the silence of a cool machine too much, FAH sends my cpu fan into overdrive... there's a little mini-tornado going on in my PC case.
I'm waiting for them to bring out the GPU client and also waiting for myself to get a better heatsink/fan. :(

Welcome, MunsterCycling! and welcome back, deRanged! Now we might start climbing the ranks again... on the downside, here was I thinking only another ten years until my little Athlon-64 3000 caught up with you...

...well, at current rate less than 20 years to overtake ianoc :D

I should join again, I'm at home, have internet access, and 4 machines.

yeah i think folding at hime is a great idea, dont know if it will get us any contact with the little green men but hey. there is also protien folding too. Cant remember the name to it though. I do know custompc magazine and their readers use it and are ranked at 15/16th. good cause too. helps to understand diseases and similar.

Thanks for that. I'm a shadow of my former self though, can't get the use of the hardware.

ssh. if he doesn't notice I'll catch him in just over a year!

/me downloads. Heck, its on half the time, so may as well use it for something. The funny thing is, on one machine, the next WU will be finished in 20 days, whilst the one on this machine will be finished in 11 hours.

Yeah there are big and small work units... I prefer the fast/small ones, it's more exciting :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭MunsterCycling

Anyone know how to set the client up to only get small WUs and I don't mean the less than 5MB setting? Is there an optimised client like for BOINC, and lest I be stoned I tried setting up Folding on a few lab machines here but there is no way i can set the port from 8080 to something that will pass through our firewall which will not be re-configured so I set-up a BOINC team
    http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/create_account_form.php?teamid=3250
Which is sort of the same thing, doing medical research!

I think most people have switched to rosetta at this stage in the DC comminity.

More efficent and better run on the admin end of things pretty muc. Lots of communication from the organisers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭MunsterCycling

Ok, we are starting to fall down the ranks not good not good people, we need some more cpu's churning out folds for us so come on and join in / rejoin.

Alternatively why not join our boards.ie Rosetta team address in my sig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭MunsterCycling

OK were still falling down the ranks as people leave the team, come on people its only a few spare processor cycles.

    MC

I blame the warm weather. When it gets colder, it's as cheap to convert electricity to heat using computers as it is to use heaters. ( hmmm render farm on night rate ??)

Ouch, not looking too healthy right now... we used to have some big heavyweight folders (namely ianoc :D).
    http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=39432

I just started up my folding client and picked up on that work unit I left off on in October 2005  :D
How time flies... I don't know if they'll even want this one back.

The boards Rosetta team doesn't look very active either though.

    lol :D
Didn't you have like 50+ odd processors at one stage?

Just been having a read of the OcUk folding forum... a few threads there where they're seeing how many friends they can 'borg' to fold under their username.
They really like their folding tbh.

This was fun for "running in" my laptop.
Yeah, nothing like Apple plastic close to melting point :D
And don't even dare ask how long it takes for a 1.33Ghz G4 to get a work unit done... IIRC one took over 3 weeks...
