I don't ask much. Not the fastest bestest computer/gfx card/mouse/whatever. Not the latest/greatest/super-woohoo games. Just BF2 installed and running for the very rare occasions I manage to scrounge 30 mins on a week-end for 'me time'.

So there I was, downloaded the incremental, patched religiously, nothing whatsoever to tmper with my BF2 vanilla: no mods, no hacks, no nothings - just what came off the DVD, fully patched up everytime.

Now, I'd not tried MP since patching and tonight, after shipping the family off for a week, I finally have time to sit down and frag away... Weeeeell, guess what: after 7x CTDs and 2x frozen-stiff apps, AM-I-EVER-AS-F*CK

They broke my f%$*#@ game a-f%$*#@-gain    I AM SO f%$*#@ FED UP OF THAT SHOWER OF c%$*#@ OF EA. Even f%$*#@ VERSION 1.0 staright off the DVD works better, after about 3 GB's worth of patches since this whole mess started.

I'm back to UT GOTY and if EA ever thought I was going to entertain the mere thought of perhaps/maybe/eventually fork up for BF2142, they can f%$*#@ well shove it up their @rse 'til it tickles their collective, inept, so-dense-the-light-bends-around-them, tonsils

    One mightily angry ex-customer.

    Ea Killed my Dog
Aye for a game just out a year it has had 2 many patches, and one after the other just breaks other stuff.
For a big Firm like Ea & a big Game like Battlefield it has been a big let down and a fart in the face for the Commuinity

But think of it, they cant really find all the bugs when the games in testing because there is so much action.... so they realy on beta testers/ the public to report these bugs and then they fix them, but when they change the code it makes a collision with another part of the code which then forms another bug... you should all just be greatful to the amount of time they work even after people have bought the game... ok sorry for that rant lol just had to get it out.

They only patched it to ensure the packs worked with it.

ET:QW is being made by a reputable company under the guize of Id software. any patch that they release will be for good reason, and wont require it's own patch 2 months after!

Seen this post on another forum, ...although they piss me off,,,,i had to agree with this fella
I love this site and the forums[bf2s.com i took it from], but one thing that seriously irritates me are the number of sad pathetic losers 'dissing' EA and Dice for their obvious poor work on the patching, but forgetting their excellent work in terms of providing the game in the first place!

Have you not considered for one second that without the abilities of Dice and EA, we would not be on this site right now, the game wouldn't exist, and many of you would literally not have a life.

You have no right to criticise their origins, being based in Canada, nor to attack their skill and abilities - yes they fooked up with the patching, but bear in mind just how many operating systems, system configurations, graphics cards and software package combinations are present throughout the worldwide userbase of this game!!

NO ONE asked you to purchase the game, no one asks you to play it - that is YOUR choice, the fact that patches are available so frequently is rather rare in the IT industry, think yourselves lucky - eitherway your purchase, ownership and playing of the game is VOLUNTARY, and also consider the small sum you infact paid in the first place, £25.00 for me personally...£25 WELL SPENT as far as I'm concerned, patching or no patching.

All I ask is that before attacking EA and Dice, consider the above for just one second, then perhaps continue to post your ****ty pathetic immature low IQ-level attack on two incredibly talented companies that have produced potentially a 'game changing' standard looking towards the future.

And for those with very little constructive to say in response to this, don't bother responding, instead reread my post and ask someone to interpret it for you.

Totally agree with everything in that post.

    Lmao @ that.

1st patch contained a memory leak that fúcked the game for everyone.
2nd patch was a hotfix to fix the 1st but added it's own fúck ups.
3rd patch for me was the best.1.03
4th patch done nothing but add more problems.
5th patch was basicly the same.
    6th patch see above.
    7th patch see above.
8th patch was 1.3 and brought boycotts or am i drunk and can't count the patches ?

The patches have done nothing for the game in general but fúck it up.

Wait wait wait...thats bollocks. Sorry, but complete bollocks.
"everyone complains about the patches but noone appreciates the game!"
Thats like giving someone a nice big chocolate cake with a massive sh!t in the centre of it and saying "Yeah sure its got a turd filled centre, but just look at the nice chocolate on the outside!".
EA/Dice made a nice promising game. Then they crippled it with terrible patches, that cause more harm than good, and releasing 'booster packs' that contain stuff they used to give us for free, only now it costs you a tenner. Hell only last week i had such an absolute nightmare trying to install SF that i said to myself 'if it doesnt work this time, im uninstalling BF2 and never playing it again'. I wont even recount what i had to go through to get SF installed cause if i di ill be typing all night, but for now i will say this, from my experience with BF2, yes, ill keep playing it, but no i will never buy another EA game as thier support is ABYSMAL, and when ET:QW comes out ill be buying that, and uninstalling bf2 the second quake wars is ready to roll.

"You have no right to criticise their origins, being based in Canada, nor to attack their skill and abilities - yes they fooked up with the patching, but bear in mind just how many operating systems, system configurations, graphics cards and software package combinations are present throughout the worldwide userbase of this game!!"

Ehh how come games like WOW with millions of subscribers all over the world can be patched without problems? Ditto games like Counter strike? Dod: source? FEAR? etc?

Get galactic civilization 2 or eve online to see how a real developer who loves their games and respects their customers work it will open your eyes.

or dod:source. The dod:s devs actually use the dod forums and post to let players know how updates are coming along, hint at what type of content will be in upcoming updates, listen to player feedback etc...try getting that from EA

In all fairness theres not much you can change on DOD, no tanks, no planes, no c4, medics etc. Dod is beautiful because it's basic, all you do is improve with little tweaks, a map here, not too many oppurtunities to f'up.

With eve online and WoW i'm sure the monthly subscription fees keeps them on their toes, because they'll lose subscribers, they can't afford to rush things and screw they lose business. Don't know if galactic civ requires subscriptions.

Sure EA f'ed up and dropped the ball a few times, but after we buy the game we're giving them no more money, apart from the add-ons, and maybe the servers for rankings, they don't have to update, but fair play to them they do. Yeah i'm pissed at them but i'd be more pissed of if i was paying 20 quid a month subscriptions and they f***'ed up.

The day EA or any other game company release a patch\update and noone complains, is the day that i realise i'm dead and in heaven.

Just about every piece of software that comes out is bugged , some more so than others . Every version of windows was at it's most stable just before the next one came out , and you started all over again . The first place I go when I install a game is to it's home page and look for ver 1.01 . I have no ver 1.0 of any game on my pc .

We accept this , and have done for years . The problem with EA/Dice is that when they patched to make it better , they did in some places but that fix broke something else . To be at a stage , 12 months down the line , where you cannot play on servers without them or you crashing every 15 minutes is the worst situation I have seen in all my patch downloading years .

Some would say that we should be grateful that they bother to patch at all , but if we , the paying public , thought for one second that we would be buying a game that had no follow on support , we would very quickly stop buying from that source . So it is in EA/Dice's best interest to patch until they get it right , otherwise it effects future sales .

Whether you like the BF francise or not it is the biggest most complex FPS gaming experience around , and pretty much the first of it's kind , to get it all right was always going to be a challange . But they got us to fork out the money believing that they would get it right so now they most except the responsibility of following that through , or risk alienating a very large fan base .

In my opinion the problem is that they are wasting their time adding features that no one wants while ignoring the real problems. As soon as 2142 was announced we should have realised BF2 was borked.

Re. the "stop crying in your soup and be thankful they made the game" argument, two things:

    (i) I can fully accept (and have long done so) fixes here and there for bits and bobs that QA missed out and that only surfaces through emergent gameplay (for that's what BF2 is, really - a big combat sandbox). I've been playing PC games for well over 10 years, and am most familiar with 'patching'.

(ii) I cannot however accept to have to spend the better part of 2 hours or so to uninstall/reinstall/patch/repatch etc. nearly everytime a new patch is out. There just aren't enough hours in the day for me to do that - my bad and my own cross to bear, but just so.

Publishers have to recognise that not all of their customer base is mid-to-late teens or students with nothing better to do with themselves than fiddle about for hours to get a game working... As a matter of fact, certainly not where PC games are concerned, and I'd be mightily interested in getting to know the age distribution of BF2 players.

Then again, players of that age bracket with much disposable time today may well be players of my age bracket with next to no disposable time tomorrow. Then we'll see who's nagging at EA.

Having to reinstall BF2 for a patch isn't normal and I don't think I've ever has to do it.
Have you considered a problem with your setup maybe?

and not to take anything from valve, but i frequent a number of game-related forums where devs pop in every now and then to chat and field questions and take suggestions etc. i understand some dev teams pay one member of the QA squad to go online every few days to see what's going on...

while i agree about tanks and planes, weapons and player classes are there... and the very basic game core is the same (choosing a class, capping flags, killing enemies). BF2 just has a few more interactions from class-to-class. but BF2's support guys can drop ammo around, just like BF2.. so if valve wanted to add medics, they could very easily.

as for vehicles, i'd point to red orchestra... same engine, same idea.. works better then BF2.

if EA/DICE charged monthly subs and messed up you'd find people using their BF2 skills to pick off employee's

valve have updated and patched their games every few weeks since the release of steam, and only once did i complain (when they borked the favourites thing)...

I'm sorry but wtf? , you sound as if you think patching released games is a new phenomon. Its around a long long time, heck there are games a decade old that are still being maintained with less patches than bf2!(e.g. starcraft ~same number or less patches). O and the whole thing of fourms being full of abuse over a patch is good, before everyone was bb enabled patches used to be well tested before release due to the effort in delivery. Now EA n co just fire them out willy nilly because they know they can release a hotfix the next day if they break something major. There was no excuse in the wide earthly world for the memory leaks in the first patch, a 12 year old programmer would have noticed them in testing and not released the patch until it was fixed. Did they never compile the patch and test it at all before shipping? Like really the server versions were eating up ram(64player version took something like 600megs with a few minutes.........).

No sorry i've no sympathy for EA/Dice in all this, and whatever about buying that product, i did it based on the strength of the previous battlefield games, I won't be buying any other EA/Dice combos.

Have you considered a problem with your setup maybe?

As I posted, my setup on my 'online' rig is plain vanilla, has always been from day one. Never once installed a mod or tweaked any files or added a file or another (heck! I don't even know what that config or system file in windows that other posters have mentioned in other threads is about!), not even once added a new map or anything: straight off the DVD, then patches downloaded from EA only.

So, no, I don't think it's 'my setup' (which, of itself, hasn't had any new software/hardware installed in the last 2 or 3 months, any virus/trojans or otherwise 'abnormal behaviour' and was playing BF2 just fine before patch 1.3).

[As you may vaguely remember from other threads in here, I be the guy who's got BF2 running on a 'vanilla' Dell D600 lappie, and I'm using that offline-only to test maps/mods/etc, so I don't risk f*cking up my main install for online play, what with PB and all that - some use, after all that!]

I also had to reinstall windows because BF2 would play ( I couldn't join any servers without crashing ), think in the end it turned out to be a PB problem , but a format was the only way of fixing it . Think that was around the 1.03 patch .
