I am a guitarist and have been playing for a year or so (I know not very long). My problem is that a friend of mine wants me to switch to bass as he is an excellent player and it would be easier to form a band with the twop of us. He suggested me pick up a cheap bass.He suggested using my guitar amp if needs be. what I need to know is what is a good quality bass I can get around 300euro and should I get an amp. I didn't know whether to go for a squire p bass, tanglewood,Cort or to spend a little extra and get a yamaha. Rock/metal is the style of music I play. Any ratings suggestions etc would be appreciated

Ibanez and Yamaha are putting out great bass deals for that sort of money. You'll need a real bass amp. If you're playing metal a guitar amp isn't going to cope with what you'll be putting it through when you hook up with a drummer. However, chances are you'll be playing in rehearsal studios so it's not an immediate concern. Have a look at www.thomann.de and www.musicstore.de for cheap instruments and compare the prices with the shops here, you might just save yourself a good bit of money.

    Good luck with it.

    €269

I was thinking about getting one of these. They also have it in black.

Take the time to have a look around thomann, it'll be worth it.

thanks for the info lads. now all i have to do is get through my exams and get some money and by the bass then its spend the summer jamming.( I was going to do this anyway but the prospect of playing both guitars is somewhat satisfying)

I bought an Ibanez Iceman bass, highly recommend it for the price.

Paid $299 for mine used (not a scratch on it), regularly goes for $399 USD.

    Basic controls, excellent sound.

check out SX basses. some people will probably say they are cr*p but i have one and its amazing. probably better quality than a mex fender imho.
they have a massive following on most of the bass forums. (e.g. talkbass.com, HC bass forum etc.)
got mine for just a little over 200euro in the old waltons just past o'connell street.

here it is. (sorry if i offend anyone with the logo on the bass. :) )

aidjtk its not too late to get a summer job, keep trying. Im still looking cause I wont be able to work till July.

Right, onto the bass. Id go for a nice cort, I love those babies. I wouldnt recomend tanglewoods I have one and I dont like it at all. Im looking at a cort myself, that and a six string Harley Benton.
