Fcuking line integrals doing my head in

I've been at this for hours and I absolutely cannot understand line integrals (i.e.The method of how to evaluate them. If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful. Ah, Vector Calculus.
That second questions is a bit odd, anyway..........
Vector Field Line Integral.

That was quite helpful though I managed to sort it out form the book (Thomas Calculus). The lecturer seems to have covered this stuff in the reverse order of what the book does, which threw me for ages.
