Visiting Irish Racecourses

From looking at the lack of responses to the Irish Racecourses post from fr wishy washy (1 in 13 or so people who viewed it replied to it) it struck me to ask over the last year or so how many race course in Ireland have people visited. For myself it's been

    Fairyhouse
    Navan
    Bellewstown
    Laytown
    Leopardstown
    Punchestown
    Kilbeggan
    The Curragh
    Listowel
    Galway

Really I'm just wonder are boardsters actually going to a few race meetings over the year or could they not care less about them. It's not a competition or anything, just a wondering on mybehalf.

This being one of the most voyeuristic forums on boards I'm expecting the usual replies:view ratio for this post!

I have not been to many this year, due to other commitments, but I rarely miss Leopardstown (It is only a few miles away from me). I was at the Irish Grand National, but thats about it for this year I'm afraid. My new years resolution was to visit at least 2 British tracks, which I will fulfill during my 3 weeks off in August (still not sure which meetings to go to :) )

Over the next 5 years, I plan on visiting every track in Ireland, - which should make for some great weekends away.

    Curragh,
    Leopardstown,
    Punchestown,
    Navan,
    Tralee,
    Listowel,
    Galway,
    Gowran,
    Fairyhouse.

As a kerryman, I shamefully admit that I've never been to the Killarney races.

    Cheltenham,
    Catterick.

Lol, sorry, didn't realise it was only in last year. Leop, Punch, Cheltenham, Tralee, Curragh.

I've been to The Curragh, Leopardstown, Fairyhouse only in the last year, I've been to quite a few others over the years.

Arc weekend. No one there on Saturday. mobbed on Sunday. You'll think you are cheating with the price in, something like €6. Free racing posts as well. Racecards, couldnt believe it, were, would you believe, in French.

    Fairyhouse
    Navan
    Leopardstown
    Punchestown
    The Curragh
    Galway
    Gowran Park
    Sligo
    Roscommon
    ClonmelLimerick

I have also popped over to Sandown, Lingfield and Wolverhampton in the last year. Visited Chester and Cheltenham the year before, and am heading to Goodwood on the 9th June for the weekend.

    Knock Airport is very handy!

    Ireland:
    Curragh (my least favourite)
    Leopardstown (my favourite)
    Tipperary
    Limerick (old)
    Cork (Mallow)
    Listowel (Festival)
    Galway (Festival)

    France:
    Longchamp (Arc day)

    Italy:
    Milan

    USA:
    Emerald Downs

The American track was by far and away the best track I've ever been too - so clean, very cheap to get in ($4 I think - due to the Tote monopoly), excellent facilities including fantastic restaurants, small track so easier to see.

As a "nice day out", the US track was the best - for atmosphere, Irish Champion Stakes day at Leopardstown is the best. Anyone who witnessed Galileo vs Fantastic Light or High Chapparal vs Falbrav would agree...

Care to fill us in a little bit about your syndicate, how many people ,how much to get in & per month as I'd say there'd be a few here interested:)

    just the curragh and punchestown.
does anyone else not find the price of admission to Irish racecourses too much? I would go more often if it wasn't so dear. 25 into the curragh this weekend. I know it's a classics weekend but surely 15 would be a more reasonable price.

    in the last year...

    Curragh (whenever its on)
    Naas (summer evenings mostly)
    Punchestown
    Leopardstown
    Fairyhouse
    Limerick
    Newmarket
    Newbury

Punchestown is the most enjoyable - Curragh is dire. Newbridge dog track is a nicer night out - can't wait for the renovations!
Dont think I'll go to Leopardstown at Christmas again - far too hard to get around.

It is too dear - the girlfriend bought me membership for the curragh for Christmas (bless her - its like buying a bottle of brandy for an alco) - but it works out cheaper if you go to every meeting. plus you get into all the Newmarket meetings for free too (grand for me - over there regularly enough)
