DTT rollout -- Server fitout in BT citywest shortly

    Just heard for an reliable source that the RTE DTT servers will be fitted in the BT Citywest server farm the end of next month. Good news for all the service will test/run from mid june I suspect. :rolleyes:

    It makes sense, BT have won the managing of the media servers and distribution of the TV to the transmitters.

    BT have lots of experience with this sort of work and a very comprehensive national fibre network.

    They won't be running the actual transmitters, I believe Chorus/UPC will be doing that.

    Surely it would have been more logical to award running the transmitters to RTÉ, considering they have the largest transmission network in the country. That and UPCs own "network" being a basketcase.

    RTE's network is for sale and must be bought by however picks up the tab to roll out Digital.

    Which will almost certainly be the state, who aren't going to want the network.

    RTENL are likely to stay part of RTÉ for the forseeable future.

    Hi
    I've a TV with inbuilt 'freeview' does this mean I can expect a signal soon in Swords?
    Also do I need anything other than the inbuilt 'freeview' receiver?

    Probably, at least the MPEG2 tests; and nothing but an aerial.

    You might have some fun getting it to make a channel listing but you should be fine, although we'll have to wait and see.
