Did anyone watch Peter Lennons film of Dublin in 1967 on RTE last night.
It was really hyped up as a classic, apart from it being really well shot, and Luke Kellys great voice, it didn't do much for me . As Eamon Dunphy , would say good , but not great . Were the Dubliners of the 1960 really that unhapphy -- suicide rates and drug addiction were a lot less then than now. The black and white images made it look depressing, yes sex abuse was rife , but i think there were some good clergy men as well .

You have to take it for what it was, a very one sided view from someone who didn't like the clergy at all. It was an interesting enough film, butas you (and Eamon) said, it was good, but not great.

Fr Cleary did come across very well but talk about being a hypocrite with his talk on celibecy. Had a right laugh watching the ballroom of romance, the men in the pub until closing time, the women waiting in the hall for the blokes to arrive.
