Sounds like a very good site. When it comes back again I am going to register on it. If I put in €20, how long roughly would that last me?

I think it was 1c US a MByte or have they changed it to 99c US an album now or what?

€20 should get you mabye $23 or so.

Thats grand, thanks. Do they accept 3v cards?

It's $0.02 per MB, an average album will be somewhere around $1.50 - 1.80. No idea about 3V cards but the best and most secure way to pay on it is to buy the prepaid XRost cards. You can use Paypal to buy them, which you can't do directly on Allofmp3 - you have to use your credit card, and buying the prepaid card also gets you a 10% bonus.

I use Newzbin.com in conjunction with EasyNews. Great combination for all those Linux ISO's out there! :)

Snippets from the article, this article is as much speculation as the negative one so all we can do is assume the service will return and most likely some of there servers were taken again and they will host them elsewhere. The tactic of the music industry is most likely to keep trying to impact the level of service allofmp3 provide to frustrate their customers.

“As far as we know the site is genuinely down for repair,” an IFPI spokesperson told Slyck.com. “Russian authorities had ordered the seizure of some of the site’s servers a couple of weeks ago, but it switched to new servers and the service carried on.”

Although there's an ongoing case against AllofMp3.com, the service appears safe for now. A request for comment from the administration of AllofMp3.com was not immediately returned at time of publication

The IFPI filed a complaint against AllofMp3.com in February of 2005; however their attempt lost steam when Vladimir Dragunov, the IFPI’s legal advisor in Russia, warned the IFPI “don’t have much chance of succeeding” if they attacked the digital music retailer. Moscow later dropped the charges against AllofMp3.com.

I'd never heard of the site till now...

I think we should bring up the IRMA issue at the next general election. There are more people with Broadband in ireland than people who love IRMA, and the TD's need to be informed of this fact.

Well the site is currently legal under Russian law and so is legal to downlaod from. However, Putin has promised to clean up Russian copyright law so the future is hazy at best.

Personally, I always add about $10 and use it all within a day, just in case the site is taken down. Durrently my balance is $0 so I'm happy about that but would of course love to have the site back :)

my worry about this site, is that as you have to pay using credit card, you record your details of the purchase . So if "Music copyright Association or whoever" come after illegal downloaders , they will have a record of your purchase of illegal goods. This cant happen on peer to peer sites , as you don't pay . Maybe i'm just getting paranoid .

    It's back on.
For those who haven't used it, I have used it several times over the last few months and have had no problems.

    It's back fully http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/16/allofmp3_shut_down/
The IFPI tried to take action against the site last year but failed because it does not break Russian laws, nor is it illegal to import music from the site into many countries.

That's been on the main site for months now, it seems to be a differently branded version of the explorer program.

The site I linked to is not connected though but it does have a very similar appearance.

Bit of an update when you try to order....
    Ordering is temporarily not available.
The site is undergoing some technical restructuring.
We work hard to resume the service. We expect to put back all the functions shortly.
Please, accept our appologies for this ongoing disruption.

It looks like they have a link on the front page to a beta version of a new download client (alltunes). They could be just adding in and testing the server-side support for this.

Unless that link has been there for months and I never noticed it.

<Edit>Just saw the post mentioning that this has been up there for months. Never mind.</Edit>

i wonder will alltunes allow iPod connectivity , where you can sync songs in your tunes library ?
looks very similar to itunes, which makes uploading your music to an ipod a doddle .
Still wary of handing over my credit card details to allofmp3 accound .

Looks like you can download it now - give it a try!
Looks like a fancier version of the explorer. The preview option still seems tobe broken though :(
