Dunno, I've been getting "Page cannot be displayed" all day. There were problems with it a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully it's just temporary again.

will do! the computer running marginally slower is a small price to pay for free movies, music, software, etc.

    enjoy!

why use that site, its border line illegal? Just do bearshare and have a sensible head on you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

I know it's illegal and I couldn't give a toss. I pay for the convenience. I get what I want, when I want, whatever format and bitrate i want for practically nothing. No waiting in queues, no viruses. Just convenience.

Damn it had better not be gone, I've got about $8 on there I haven't spent yet.

Ive seen people use allofmp3 before and I can honestly say its very convenint allright!

For someone on a restrictive network you could also use a newsgroup....but they are messy for the most part to use!

I "could" source the same albums they get from allofmp3 through torrents/P2P but for the novice who wants it ASAP then that site was actually pretty good value.....but illegal* none the less!

*=I think it was legal in Russia ONLY.

Maybe they're just mainting the server! I'd wait till it's down for a week.

Early on the weekend it was returning a maintenance page so can only assume it is still be worked on. It is just refusing connections as far as I can see once they are finished I am sure they will let people connect.

In the meantime if you havent too big of a balance waiting for you on allofmp3 or if you cant wait use www.mp3search.ru another cheap russian site in English, alot of albums for 99US cents.

Good man Colly, that site is almost as good.

They were advertising an i-tunes clone on there last week called 'Alltunes' or something - does anybody know if that still works ?

No it doesnt, same problem with that. the server is down

The maintenance page is back up which should calm alot of peoples nerve about the site being closed and their balance that remains on it.

is allofmp3 legal or not ?
haven't heard of anyone being prosecuted ?
as far as i know the only prosections have been for peer to peer sites such as limewire !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,170 ✭✭✭Serbian

I'm sure the site is just undergoing maintenance at the moment, but they do have a lawsuit pending for criminal copyright infringement so you never know!

That suit was dropped last year, iirc the legislation used in it did not apply to digital media.

just because people haven't been prosecuted doesn't mean its legal, if you're gonna download illegal music why even pay for it

    isn't it obvious??!

brilliant choice, excellent speeds, no viruses, music properly tagged and all the music is linked by genre.

I think it's brilliant, I can download ****loads of music I can't find anywhere else for about 20 euro and can download it at college. so much better than messing around with kazaa and bearshare and all that crap. plus, they seem to be concentrating on file-sharing program users in the crackdown, they don't seem to be going after users of these sites yet

One of the spokespeople from IRMA claimed on the radio last year that AllOfMP3 was legal. (Matt Cooper's show). They also said that as long as you pay for it it's legal by them.

Sounds like a very good site. When it comes back again I am going to register on it. If I put in €20, how long roughly would that last me?

I think it was 1c US a MByte or have they changed it to 99c US an album now or what?

€20 should get you mabye $23 or so.

Thats grand, thanks. Do they accept 3v cards?

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,352 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

It's $0.02 per MB, an average album will be somewhere around $1.50 - 1.80. No idea about 3V cards but the best and most secure way to pay on it is to buy the prepaid XRost cards. You can use Paypal to buy them, which you can't do directly on Allofmp3 - you have to use your credit card, and buying the prepaid card also gets you a 10% bonus.

I use Newzbin.com in conjunction with EasyNews. Great combination for all those Linux ISO's out there! :)

Snippets from the article, this article is as much speculation as the negative one so all we can do is assume the service will return and most likely some of there servers were taken again and they will host them elsewhere. The tactic of the music industry is most likely to keep trying to impact the level of service allofmp3 provide to frustrate their customers.

“As far as we know the site is genuinely down for repair,” an IFPI spokesperson told Slyck.com. “Russian authorities had ordered the seizure of some of the site’s servers a couple of weeks ago, but it switched to new servers and the service carried on.”

Although there's an ongoing case against AllofMp3.com, the service appears safe for now. A request for comment from the administration of AllofMp3.com was not immediately returned at time of publication

The IFPI filed a complaint against AllofMp3.com in February of 2005; however their attempt lost steam when Vladimir Dragunov, the IFPI’s legal advisor in Russia, warned the IFPI “don’t have much chance of succeeding” if they attacked the digital music retailer. Moscow later dropped the charges against AllofMp3.com.

allofmp3 is the only thing I know how to use for getting mp3s on the iriver !! they better not have closed cos they owe me money then ive a fiver balnce on my acct with them as im sure plenty of other users do!!

I'd never heard of the site till now...

I think we should bring up the IRMA issue at the next general election. There are more people with Broadband in ireland than people who love IRMA, and the TD's need to be informed of this fact.

Well the site is currently legal under Russian law and so is legal to downlaod from. However, Putin has promised to clean up Russian copyright law so the future is hazy at best.

Personally, I always add about $10 and use it all within a day, just in case the site is taken down. Durrently my balance is $0 so I'm happy about that but would of course love to have the site back :)

my worry about this site, is that as you have to pay using credit card, you record your details of the purchase . So if "Music copyright Association or whoever" come after illegal downloaders , they will have a record of your purchase of illegal goods. This cant happen on peer to peer sites , as you don't pay . Maybe i'm just getting paranoid .

    It's back on.
For those who haven't used it, I have used it several times over the last few months and have had no problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

It wont let me order anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

    It's back fully http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/16/allofmp3_shut_down/
The IFPI tried to take action against the site last year but failed because it does not break Russian laws, nor is it illegal to import music from the site into many countries.

The website is down though. Wonder will this be a new version of the allofmp3 explorer? It could expain the downtime...

That's been on the main site for months now, it seems to be a differently branded version of the explorer program.

The site I linked to is not connected though but it does have a very similar appearance.
