I wouldn't splash out just yet if I were you.

(Well actually I would, and have, since I'm already going but not on the basis of that information!)

My second removed cousin on the side of my mothers piano teacher says your source is not inspiring confidence.

Band has only been back together 4 days.

Hmm, I wonder how reliable a source like that could be.

I don't know.......all I've seen is they have no news up on their site apart from saying they are back together and in the process of writing an album to be recorded during the summer - so I'd say it's unlikely they'll tour Europe till after the summer......

I hope they dont play EP(i dont have a ticket) but the happiness of it all is that they are back!

Darcy Wretzky and Billy Corgan doin accoustic...pfft, nothin without Jimmy Chamberlin! I doubt the ywould be printi nprogrammes now. maybe designing them without puttin in bands on it

I wouldn't believe it until I see it. Very unlikely to my mind though. I doubt the Smashing Pumpkins, in whatever shape or form it returns to, would play such a festival. Electric Picnic doesn't exactly cater for alternative rock bands.

Sounds like another myth to me.

You're trying to tell us the EP managed to book a band who only confirmed they had re-formed FOUR DAYS AGO?

    Please :-)

Electric Picnic doesn't exactly cater for alternative rock bands.

Erm, that's based on what? I remember seeing The Flaming Lips, Nick Cave, LCD Soundsystem, Bob Mould and Arcade Fire last year. Pumpkins are a lot more electric than many of the acts already listed to play. Except if they're doing an acoustic set.

Anyone else of interest on it? I mean other acts that have not been officially announced...

Alternative rock was too general a term, I admit. I'll just leave it at that.

I don't know anything about the economics of these things, but I reckon booking a newly-reformed Pumpkins, even in acoustic form, would cost a helluva lot of money. The Pumpkins are still massive, and Electric Picnic is still quite a small festival for those kind of heavyweights to consider.

I don't know, I can't imagine Kraftwerk, Fatboy Slim, Nick Cave, Basement Jaxx or whatever come cheap either. Pumpkins played the Olympia and it only cost thirty bills if I remember correctly so I can easily see their fee being assimilated into a festival that has lots of advertising and merchandise money flowing through it.

    a) d'arcy isn't involved with the new pumpkins lineup. so that's complete bull**** for a start.

    b) the smashing pumpkins haven't been confirmed for any gigs yet, and haven't even stated that they would be doing any gigs.

    c) EP wouldn't book smashing pumpkins. and i seriously doubt SP if they start gigging again, would be doing festivals as part of their first few concerts.

    d) 2 of them doing an acoustic gig as part of their first few gigs back, at a festival in Ireland, isn't going to happen.

    e) they're recording the new album during the summer.

anyone who actually thinks this is remotely possible is living in a dreamland.

They wouldnt print programmes this far from the actual festival. Too many details could change. Also they wouldnt want the lineup to leak... in such a manner as your claim is based on for example.

You either got wound up or you are trying (unsuccesfully I hope) to wind us up.

Times have changed since 2000. When they do return to touring they will be in high demand for heading the big festivals.

I read somewhere on this board that POD had to turn down Daft Punk because they wanted loads of money, so there must be a limit.

As far as I know Daft Punk were looking for something really ridiculous, something in the range of millions. Most big bands get paid in tens or hundreds of thousands.

I dont agree. That price was based when they finished up back in late 2000. Sure Billy Corgan, by himself in the Ambassador, cost something like 50 euro last year did he not? I would have gone, if it wasnt such a rip off!!

And my 2 cents, this EP acoustic set aint gonna happen.

Any idea how EP tickets are selling, i'm sure they are delighted that these kind of rumours are circulating, i wouldn't buy a ticket on the strength of this rumour anyway. The Pumpkins for EP rumour had been around for months, this just sounds like a slightly evolved one. Certainly would be nice if it was true but I agree with a lot of the arguments made against it.

I heard they're not selling too well. Not surprised seeing there's no day tickets and no complete line-up announced. It's probably the organisers spreading these rumours to boost sales.

Id say the sales will go up alot after the hope of more Oxegen tickets being released dies in people. Theres far too many festivals at the moment and a lot of people are broke. It will sell out.. though probably a lot slower than it should have (Id thought it would be gone by now but that was under the assumption prince would be announced).
