You know ONE deep fried Mars Bar will not kill you, especially if you have a naturally low saturated fats diet (which very few people have i will admit)

    Battered Crunchy.
It's just brilliant. The mars bars are alright, but crunchy's are just teh win tbh.

Wait..is it crunchy or crunchie? Haven't had one in ages..

Funny how people would happily eat a mars bar and something battered seperately, but put them together and suddenly it's soooo unhealthy. No wonder there's an obesity problem.

Ugh!! That sounds disgusting!! Mars bars have enough crap in them anyway without adding more crap

    2 craps don't make an uncrap ;)
Normally I would agree with this maths but as someone who doesn't like mars bars but loves them deep fried I would have to differ.

The inside is gooey, and the outside crisp. tastes lovely with a little ice-cream.

and obviously it would be a very occasional treat, not an every day occurance.

My local chipper does them. I've never even thought of getting one until now but on the back of this thread was figuring 'what the hell' .... that was until I saw THAT pix! Looks like something someone vomited

open your mouth, pop it in and chew, yummy

My rule is everyone should try one but only once in their entire lives.

It'd be a seriously bad habit to get into - just look at Elvis.

I had a battered snickers two years ago in that Seashells place and it was incredible.

Pe pe people actually eat that crap? That's like something out of Fear Factor or something.

I think its the idea of battering something sweet that puts me off...although im sure they're just yummy after 6 or 7 pints at about 3 in the morning :p

nah mate, banana fritters are georgous, same concept, bananas in batter fried, YUMMY :p

the only thing is, being cooked in the same oil as onion rings puts me off buying them in a chipper :(

Well the conversation came up on IRC and to my shock some people have never even heard of this before , well guys its YUMMY and i long to try it again. What are peoples views on this ? Have people tried it ? Do people know where to get them in ireland ?

I asked in my local chippy for it and i was given a look of amazement and shock!
Here is the wiki on it.

yeah, ive been to the chip shop in stonehaven where they originated.
however, it is on the east side of scotland, not the west side as mentioned in the wiki.
its about 10 miles from aberdeen.
didnt eat one though. went to the pub across the road and got drunk instead.
the idea is repulsive to me personally, but thats inly becuase i dont like mars bars to start with!
now, if there was a deep fried bounty bar, i think id give it a go!

Rather than start a new thread ill just ask here :P

After checking the wikipedia link on deep fried mars bars, i noticed a link to deep fried twinkies! Man has anyone ever tried a twinkie? They are soo nice, i got one when a mate went away to the states and he brought one back for me about 10 years ago. I went to the states a few years back, and tried to find them, went into a 7/11 in Boston, and they didnt know what the hell i was talking about, when I asked for Twinkies.

Anyway, anyone know if you cna get Twinkies anywhere in Ireland? :D

Also, what the hell are Ho-hos ?
