OCR Software for the Visually impaired

Hello to everyone,
I'm a new user and I am looking for advice on Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software for the visually impaired. If anyone could recommend a good package for use with a scanner and JAWS Software I would appreciate it very much.

ABBYY FineReader Sprint 5.0, It is great for scanning in text for putting into Documents etc. For the visually impaired I really wouldn't know. But for normal office OCR requirements ABBYY is the best as it reads most text even bad crappy stuff very well. I have used several programs and ABBYY makes the least spelling mistakes. I presume you want something that would allow you to scan say a page of text and then read it out onscreen using a computer voice. I will do a rummage lateron this evening on Google to see what I can find but if you could get a package that would read text on its own IE. do the talking bit and use ABBYY to read the stuff, that could work too.

Contact NCBI. They regularly scan and OCR books.

Thx a mill I really appreciate it. Makes sense what your saying. I reckon if the page gets converted to a word document or whatever format JAWS can interact with at all, it be fine with the onscreen speech software.
