Sweet, pickups? Yes, the Ibanez sounds good now!

Yep, while I was in Japan, I got new pickups for my Ibanez RG1527, and with some absolutely invaluable advice from Doctor J, managed to wire them in while keeping the switching configuration that the old pickups were in.

First of all, the Ibanez V7 and V8 pickups weren't that bad at all as with reguards to their overall sound, but there was this horrible oscilation from the bridge pickup when you got up to playing on the higher frets. Now as someone who does like to use the full range a guitar allows, I can quite often widdle away quite high on the neck, so you can imagine the oscilation could get very grating very quickly. The neck pickup had a bit of squeal too, so it wasn't great in that department.

Anywho, I got myself a DiMarzio Blaze Custom, and of course, my favourite neck pickup, the Air Norton. For those who don't know the Blaze Custom is a version of the Blaze bridge pickup (The original 7 String pickup that DiMarzio made) with the mids boosted a bit. A lot of people didn't quite like the scooped sound of the original Blaze bridge pickup, so the Custom was introduced.

Well, I have to say, huge improvement! The Blaze Custom rings out with a lot of clarity, but it's also got a lot of bite, great for rythm. Not as high output as the Evolution, which I think has a bit more character than the BC, but that's not to say the BC isn't an excellent pickup. It's very well balanced. The Air Norton is great as usual, which is just excellent for singing leads and beautiful warm cleans. The best thing is the oscilation and squeal I got from the Ibanez pickups is all gone. I was afraid that the problem wasn't in the pickups, but somewhere in the guitar itself, and the oscilation might still be present with the DiMarzios, but thankfully, that wasn't the case.

Anywho, now the Ibanez RG1527 is a magnificent sounding guitar, aswell as a magnificent playing guitar. It sounds as good as it feels.

Thanks. I'll get some samples at some stage, but I don't have a mic at the moment. So I'll get back to you on that.

The pups were about the same as thomann, I think. Got them from Ishibashi.

Well, not everything. I'm still waiting on the J Custom, but yeah, at least I got pickups sorted for my beautiful 7 String.

Yeah, you should check out the DiMarzios, they're quite excellent. What kind of sound are you going for with the tele though? I'd recommend something to you then.

You know, it's possibly the only inlay I actually like at all, ever. I always love an inlayless fretboard, apart from that lovely bit of inlay work. And christ man, it feels absolutely gorgeous!

You'd be better off getting that from guitarbargains.com where I got mine. Fairly cheap, and you won't have the customs charges on top, and the shipping would be a lot cheaper too.
