Channel 4 get Fox movies (just in time for FilmFour FTA)

    Channel 4 has signed a multi-million dollar deal with 20th Century Fox to buy the rights to a raft of hit movies.
    20th Century Fox said it was the largest deal it had completed with a UK broadcaster, with a figure of $250m (£149.9m) being reported.

    Among the films included in the deal are Dodgeball, The Day After Tomorrow, X-Men 3 and The Omen 666.

    The deal comes as Channel 4 prepares to launch its movie channel FilmFour as a free-to-air channel in July.

    A nice deal for C4 and the viewer, I assume it means that they'll pip Sky Movies with first airings of new films like X-men 3... seems odd to me all the same, Fox doing a deal that will damage (to some degree) its sister broadcaster Sky; unless the deal means the C4 get the first airing AFTER Sky?!

    i would assume it will be after Sky show them. at a guess Channel 4 will have picked up the FTA rights

    That would make more sense; still a great deal for C4; plenty of films to boost FilmFour with when it goes FTA, and plenty of decent movies that they can throw out at christmas etc.; generally speaking their movie premiers at Christmas are never quite as popular as BBC/ITV

    Yeah, should definitely boost FilmFour after it goes FTV/FTA. Look forward to it! :)

    I doubt it was just in time for filmfour. I'm sure they knew what they were at. They could make filmfour fta tomorrow but they planned to buy the rights a long time ago.

    ive a feeling id never switch film 4 off if i hate it, cannot wait for it to become FTA!
