Should the Government buy the Network side of Eircom from Babcock and Brown and let its fibre Management Company Enet Manage the network for it

Yes, the gov should buy back the network. They should have never sold it in the first place. They have learned that lesson, they are keeping the ESB network while selling off the retail arm.

However it should be on the condition that they:

1) Invest heavily in fixing the network.
2) Support and fix the LLU process.
3) don't give any favourable access to Eircom.

The Government can't, and won't, buy back Eircom, or any part thereof.

Would be the ideal solution, but could not see it happening. Bertie Ahern knows only to well that, rightly or wrongly, the majority of those stung in the Eircom flotation blame the gov for mis-leading them. So for him to suggest buying the network back for millions of euros of tax-payers money would be nothing short of political suicide.

Yes, let's bring back Telecom Eireann, that shining light of forward thinking telcos. There is a thing called regulation, perhaps we can try that route first.
