Second, except I think the new material is below average.

System rock! Their new stuff is pretty bad... one or two songs are okay to listen to!! But the majority of it is brutal.

On a slightly related topic, Serj Tankians long hair + long beard is... well... not nice!!! Looks silly. :D

that's what he looked like when he actually sang the songs. did you know he used to run a software company? crazy world it is...

I always liked SOAD.They never got every song right, but there seemed an honesty about their approach to it that was rather endearing.

I love the two new albums.Radio Video is a masterpiece:D

One of the greatest and original metal bands out there
New stuff is fùcking brilliant and ill gut anyone who says different,
Daron wrote the majority of the last two albums so why shouldn't he sing in them?

you're gonna be gutting a good few people... :D

I was expecting much much better with the two new albums. I was actually really disappointed! :(

There was this kid in my school who told me he was a die hard soad fan, and saying he knew everthing about them. Poor lad didn't know thay had albums apart from Toxicity, Mesmerize and Hypnotize. The shame......

I like steal this album. Makes me wanna party!

I think their new stuff is their best so far.
    And Darren's vocals are great.

big fan of them, prefer mesmerize to hypnotize and toxicity has got to be my favourite altogether:)

i pray for the day they do a gig here.....

Both new albums are brilliant, i went off them for a while when Toxicity came out. You know sometimes when you listen to an album so much that it becomes unbearable/ the lyrics dont mean anything.

Even the first album was good, "war" and "suite pee" remain some of my favorite System songs.

    Banana, banana, terracotta pie!

Very Good band. Interesting rhythms, riffs and vocals.

My only problem is that Darren seems to try to do too much and I think it has a knock on effect when they play live.

    what a great band.
i personally think their new stuff is their best. dont get me wrong, i love their first few albums, i just like how they've evolved as a band over the years.

toxicity would be my least fav album, it just doesn't have as many good songs as the others.

and for some reason i cant stop listning to old school hollywood baseball.
    terracotta pie OI!

violent pornography is on of the best songs ive ever heard

Great band. I'd be a fan of their earlier stuff too. Their new stuff is more commercial, but damn catchy too! Darren should stick to the harmonies. Look at Alice in Chains - Layne had the better voice - Layne sang. Depeche Mode also - Dave has the best voice. The one with the better voice ie. the singer should sing. The songwriter - if he has the best voice - should sing. Otherwise stick to the harmonies. It is a band afterall, not a singer songwriter we are talking about!!

i like the new albums. the hypnotize one is slightly heavier. these 2 albums i think are just a bunch of good songs. nothing as great as their past glories. they're just doing something new and its alright.
I like the sound of the albums, but in a way gibson and the vintage marshall amps are a far step away from the old equipment daron used. i like his singing, even tho there is ALOT of it.

Why do people dislike their new stuff?I think it's fantastic.Granted Darons voice isn't as vesatile as Serj's but his songwriting and guitar playing has seriously evolved;listen to the intricate pop structures on Hypnotize and Byob or daron's heavy picked SG on songs like lonely day (an unusually introspective departure for the band) or Cigaro. This album more Darons baby and but I think he's really proved himself on it.

I think darens solo parts add a new texture to an already great band. I agree that he's better at harmony though. Best harmonies- Mr Jack, Thetawaves, Streamline... actually, most of the stuff on steal this album. Him and serj blend perfectly for people with such different voices.

Like many other's I think their earlier stuff is better than the newer stuff. I wanted to like mesmerise, I really did, and there's a few great songs on it, but for the most part it just left me with a hollow feeling. this stuff about making two albums because people don't have the attention span for a double - they would have been better off working on each album for a longer period of time, perhaps releasing them a year of two between one another... Perhaps they stretched themselves too thin with that concept.

    They were great.
    Original and innovative.
But anything after Toxicity was seriously lacking.
It's like they got very full of themselves and cut back on the awl effort.

i really like most of SOAD stuff. altho yer man who does backin vocals is worse than jason newsted was with metallica. toxicity defo best album. not mad on the latest of the twin albums.

quite an original metal band in this terrible age of rock gone wuss!

toxicity is a great album, some really really catchy songs on it. the last two are ok, haven't listened to the latest one all that much to be honest. some of the songs on the self-titled one are good too, have to get hold of steal this album and give that a listen.

I don't think I've ever read a more irritating post.

Anyway, back to the topic. I really have to defend Daron's singing. I absolutely love it. As for the 2 new albums, I thought they were great, but they wore out within a couple of weeks. It just got boring after a short while.
