verbs in the -as form

ok was just wondering when you would use verbs shortened for example to "chuas" or "ni rabhas" and the exact reasoning behind it

In this case the 'as' replaces 'mé' ie.

chuas = chuaigh mé, ní rabhas = ní raibh mé

It's called the 'synthetic' form of the verb and is a feature of Munster Irish.
