What's Your Hobby?

What's your favourite hobby, how did you come across it and why do you enjoy it?

For me it would be reading/writing or cinema. I think I came across such pastimes from reading comics when I was a kid.

I like it because I can switch off completely and relax, and be transported to another place/time/situation and away from any stress of the real world.

Reason I'm asking is because I want a new hobby, and was wondering what else is cool to waste time with?

NB: Drinking is not a hobby either! ;)

You should try rock-climbing or hiking. Started both recently and they provide my only exercise.

Oh sorry. Don't really have a hobby as such. Like going to the cinema (who doesn't?).

Yeah I was thinking of hiking... Not many places to go around Dublin though, maybe down to Wicklow and the Wicklow Way... also would have to buy hiking gear... but I think it's on my list. Are you in a hiking club?

    DJing

started about 7-8 years ago (i think) just messing about on friend's decks over at their gaff/at house partys.
i started using various mp3 mixing programs not long after that, and finally bought my first set of decks last June (good old technics SL1210 mkIIs).
as hobbies go, this is a seriously ****ing expensive one
think i've spent well over €3000 since last June:o
it can be very rewarding though, you seem to reach platueas (sp!) every once in a while whereby you become noticeably better at a certain aspect of it. and it can be incredibly absorbing... 5 hours can flash by in what seems like an instant.

i'd definitely advise trying out a program such as Traktor DJ studion if you're interested in any form of electronica

other than that. games, movies and tv to a lesser extent.

Gotta love the saxophone. Been into jazz now for a few years, thank you John Kelly and the Mystery Train. Massive part of my life now, I'd be lost without it. It's great to play, it vents all your anxieties and agro after a ****e day. Even if you don't play anything, just listen. Excellent stuff.

My main hobbies are martial arts and video games...
I've been doing martial arts for just over 10 years now, and 2 black belts later I still love training. I've been playing games since I was about 7, it all started with Tetris (which I still have at home!) and now it means I'm a PSP and Xbox 360 short of having all the consoles on the market.

    gaelic football!
came across it after a returned to ireland after living abroad for a couple of years. played in primary, then started with my local club. got a bit more serious as i got older.
unfortunatley havent played a lot recently but i plan to change that.
why do i enjoy it? get to know loads of people throgh it and get fit, which i like!

Play the piano, love music and love photography. They'd be proper hobbies. Don't really know why i like them so much. Don't think i want i know either. I'd be afraid i wouldn't like them anymore!

After that, i like playing games, messing with computers, and cant get enough of the cinema (when certain people hook me up with free tickets cough cough). Wouldn't class them as hobbies

    That sounded like a personal.

Photography < I've always thought about taking photographs, when I was younger I'd just visualise the photos, it's only recently that I've started doing it as a hobby.

Art < I have been drawing as long as I can remember, I don't remember not drawing.

Computer Art < Got into it about a year ago, I don't do too much at the moment, simply because it's quite time consuming, and I'm very busy. however I frequently look at other graphic designers, and I buy "Computer Arts" Magazine.

Playing Keyboard/Piano < Started the keyboard about 1.5 years ago. Self thought, I just play it casually.

Music(More an interest than a hobby) < Again, I have always liked music, it just becomes more obvious as you listen to more and more.

Playing Football (Astro/Street/Grass/Anywhere) < It's the one sport I love to play, but only when it's a good match. Sneak into trinity astros with my friends.

Couple of years of researcing, LOTS of gold-less trips, then suddenly, BINGO!

There's gold in them there Wickla hills I tells ya!
