Checking 2nd hand car is finance free..

    Am looking at a second hand car tomorrow but have just been reading a horror story on askaboutmoney.com about a guy who bought second hand and then had the car reposessed since there was finance outstanding on the car that the previous owner had done a runner on.

    Is there a equivalent to a HPI check here that i can phone to check up on this kind of thing here?
