Receiving Digital Radio in Ireland

She listems to many of the BBC channels on LW but a lot of the time the reception is awful. I have been thinking about ways to improve the situation for her. My first thought is to get her a FTA…

Hi,

I hope I'm asking this in the right forum. I have a relation who is blind and relies on the radio as her window on the world. She listems to many of the BBC channels on LW but a lot of the time the reception is awful. I have been thinking about ways to improve the situation for her.

My first thought is to get her a FTA digital satellite receiver. I could just hook this up to her stereo via the aux input and she could then use this to listen to all those free to air channels. Does this sound like a sensible approach or is there another way?

I am assuming we cannot receive UK DAB broadcasts here in Ireland. Is this correct? (Were in Dublin).

I appreciate any advice suggestions.

Hi, yes DAB from the UK is nigh on impossible in Dublin at ground level. Efforts to receive it has been documented on this thread.

An FTA receiver would be the best option, given it has more choice of BBC and other radio stations. NTL also output radio on FM, if your stereo can take a co-ax input, all you have to do is hook it up to the NTL cable termination unit. Frequencies here.
