A PATENT may allow Sony to ensure that no game would be playable from any console other than the one in which it was first read.

Whoops, i accidently dropped a hammer on my PS3 and broke it. Luckily i only have to replace the console, my nice collection of 20 games are safe and sound...

    NOT!

Seriously, if you break your PS3 are Sony going to send you replacement games if you buy a new PS3? I think not! Therefore i can't see this taking off. If it does, i think people would be switching to Xbox360's in their droves. No-one can afford to replace an entire games collection if they break their PS3.

It will never work, Sony couldn't be that stupid?
People will just not buy the PS3 if they can't swop their games.
It would also kill the 2nd hand market and the shops would turn against SONY.

No doubt the only reason they patented the technology is to prevent anyone else inflicting it on the public. Or they will have new range of cheaper games.

Sounds like good ole' Sony to me. Yet another reason not to buy a PS3, that coupled with the $$$$$Price$$$$$ factor.

It sounds like a totally unworkable proposition, though Sony have stubbornly tried the unworkable before - but isn't the "inquirer.net" a load of ****e anyhow? Thought they were a fairly undependable site?

I read about this last week.. The articles I read suggested that it woudn't be used in the PS3..

Game shops won't like this. They get a nice profit on second hand games. If that money stream is gone, they might not promote the PS3 much.... let's hope...

I can see Sony doing this. They always have been DRM-happy.

wow. That's an original way to kill off any possible customers.

Soon, you'll need four copies of the game for a 4 player.
