and anyway, maybe Greenday'd rather be rich then real punk. They stuck at it long enough without selling out, and they've gotta end sometime, so they may as well end it rich and set for life
They were never Punk in the 1st place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

listen punk is deead, it died when the first person said "punk's not dead", greenday's sound evolved from their punk lifestyle, there is no punk bands anymore coz there are no true punks, punk was just a faze, then people started putting bands into genres, you do not have the right to slag a band that have evolved form punk, if your not a punk, which none of you are, your all hypocrits and fascits, so stop

What a load of bullsh!t, the only reason punk is dead is because of horrible horrible bands like Greenday selling millions of records worldwide to stupid little teenage "non-conformists" who proclaim themselves to be the greatest punks around and they think they're ****ing martyr's cos they listen to punk and think they are so in tune with a punk lifestyle when in fact most of 'em just take it for a god damn trend and forget about it after a few months until the new cool thing comes into fashion.
there is no punk bands anymore coz there are no true punks

Is this statement implying that you are a "true punk"?
you do not have the right to slag a band that have evolved form punk

Does this mean that i can't slag Busted or Good Charlotte?
Listen Mr Cheeky Punk Head Man, I'll slag whatever band i want whenever i see fit.
if your not a punk, which none of you are, your all hypocrits and fascits, so stop

Wouldn't it be kind of slightly unpunk to hold back our opinion
    stop conforming

What exactly was your point in posting that? and conforming to what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭skapunkkeith

ok punk is whatevr u make it, it is not a style of music its a lifestyle, in my opinion you shouldnt slag a band or anyone unless u know them personally, if u just hate thier music than your an idiot, stop conforming to a stereotypical world where u are just following the trend

i never said i was a true punk, but in my mind i have the mind of a punk because i have a mind of my own

    This thread is getting stupid.

tbh... F**k punk. Anything that defines limits to what anyone should like is bull****. If being punk means I can't listen to Green Day, then I'll hang up my punk trousers right now. Why not just everyone listen to what they like, and stop giving a **** what everyone else is listening to? Why not say something positive about the music you do like, instead of saying something negative about music you don't like?

This kind of petty bickering is just pathetic.

    Here listen:
All this "they changed to make money/ they changed for fun/ they changed to get a Nestlé sponsorship is a load of me ringo.

The biggest problem with Green Day is that they haven't changed. They've been trotting out the same stuff ever since they've began, all that's different is that they're a bit better at it, they've more money to spend on it, and as with any creative entity, eventually a pattern emerges in their work.

I don't get excited by Green Day any more because it's the same as the old stuff, another album isn't new Green Day, it's simply more Green Day. If some 15 year old gets excited about Green Day, let him enjoy it, that's about the age I found them exciting too. I'm not going to look down my nose at someone for having less developed taste than me if their taste had less time to develop.

And as for the question of what's punk and what isn't, lets face it: Punk isn't punk any more. There's nothing punk about music in a 20-30 year old style which has now been pasteurised and homogenised and has cross-bred so much as to be unrecognisable. Don't get me wrong, I like and enjoy contemporary punk-rock (as I feel it is more fittingly called), but I don't think it's a revelation or a holy cow, it's a retro shindig at best.

I only read some posts on this thread. The main arguement seems to be "Is Greenday punk or not punk?".Well Greenday are not punk. That guy who thinks Greenday had some plan of exploiting television etc needs to stop smoking crack pipes.

    Punk is thinking for yourself.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭Graham Day

^ Why dont you shut the **** up. This argument is getting boring. **** punk. That guy was right about punk being a set of rules. Im sick of listening to people rant on about how punk a band are. If you wont listen to a band because of what others are saying bout them I think your sad. Green Day are one of the best bands in the world. They are a band from a punk background.

I'm with Johnny Jukebox on this one. Any band that makes even a minor political statement through a medium like music television has to be commended.

What's so excellent about that? It's probably one of the most retarded quotes on the thread.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Hehe, retarded? Are you trying to say Anarchist isn't emo? He's more emo than me and, to be honest, I'm the most emo mofo this side of the moon.

Anyway. What Ronan said was probably the least retarded bit so far. Everyone go home and listen to something and dont tell anyone about it. Noone else cares really.

Has anyone here who actually likes Green Day seen their new dvd "bullet in a bible" yet?I went to see a screening of it by fm104 in cineworld a few days ago and thought it was brilliant!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Hadn't even heard of it until I read your post. What kind of thing is it? A "rockumentary" or some sort of political commentary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

Ah right. After seeing them on the MTV awards there and once again witnessing BJ's rendition of "olé olé" and the usual clichés he's been firin' out nightly for the last few years I don't think I'd be able to stomach sitting watching a full show again. Actually, seeing them tonight made me feel like not listening to them again for a long while.

    Sad really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

It's funny how their DVD is so authentic to the real thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭Graham Day

I seen it at the FM104 showing too. Its deadly. Tre Cool is a funny bastard, snorting the sprinkles off the donuts en all. And the Jesus of Surburbia video is cool aswell. They showed the 9 minute version but the full video is 14 minutes
