Just wondering what is the oldest mobile phone number still in use in Ireland ?

I recall that 088 (analogue) numbers were switched off many years ago, so presumably the oldest must be an 087 (digital) number ?!

    (I have my 087 number since c.1995).

I think they started off with 087 5xxxx.. but there was a 2 placed in front of all the numbers then, so probaby 087 20xxxxx.

I had an 088 with 6 digits. it was the size of a cavety block and just about as heavy. my number began with a 6 i.e 088 6XXXXX then they added a 2 to it.

I remember the old analogue service. Pitty it was shut down in favour of gsm and now cdma. The American networks are a mess I have been told. They're a mix of gsm and analogue.

Lord... I had an 087.. even now, years later, if I start saying "087" in my head, the rest of my ancient mobile number follows.

I had an 088. I got it in 1999 just after my Junior Cert. It was a big brick like Motorola that had a terrible signal and a huge aerial. Still have the number...

my dad had an 088 i think since 1993 or 4, and it was on eircell 088 662XXX
then eircell payed him to move to 087 so he had the same following digits 087 662XXX untill some time later a 2 had to be added infront of 6 to make it 087 2662XXX.

Im nearly sure my uncle had one of the first mobiles in the country, it was a long shaped motorola phone with id say a 6 inch rubber aerial on top.
It was like a 2 way radio really, sometimes you would be able to hear other people calls on it if they were driving by :D
Then my dad got the ancient motorola flip phone, yeah the one with the calculator one line display. it was so heavy you could use it as a weapon if someone tried to rob you.
It needed two batteries for a days useage

the 088s were cool. you get yourself a bearcat 200 channel scanner, tune it to 800MHz and you could hear all the calls

those days are gone now though:(

you would be surprised how many people used their 088s to call sex lines.

its a question vodafone and/or the owner could answer, but the real answer is that its an 087 as 088 is defunked.

088 is the one that is defuncket. 087 is just the prefix for vodafone. they didnt bring in a prefix for vodafone 3G. my 3G is still 087.

is three Irealnd 084 or what is it?

The cousin had one, with all the ready to go's flying around it was so much fun, once we heard a conversation between some people about a cow stuck in a ditch and how he had to get the bloddy tractor to get it out, you could hear the full conversation only that the person on the other end of the call was faint, you could hardly hear them. Where as the mobile caller was really loud

Those handheld ones like that are just a bit too small for my liking, too easy to loose. ;)

My dad had one, must have been in the '80s, that was so big it would only work in the car as there was a breifcase sized unit that it needed in the boot of the car, from well before mobiles could be reffered to as anything along the lines of handheld.

AFAIK (088)1 was the last round of 088's.

My Dad has a late 80's car phone (so named because it was about the size of a small car), and has had a phone ever since, he's gone 088 - 1XXXX to 088 - 61XXXX to 087 - 61XXXX to 087 - 261XXXX, if memory serves me correctly.
