Irish NCT vs English MOT

How does the Irish NCT (National Car Test) compare with the English version, the MOT standard-wise?

The reason I ask is I'm driving here on english insurance for a short period.
The MOT will run out next month. I don't want to spend money going over on the ferry to get the MOT done in england when an Irish NCT would do.

    Cheers for any help...

As far as i can see its the same test if your car is mechanically sound and free of rust there shouldnt be a problem
