Cheapest banks in Ireland

Folks,

I caught the tail end of Michael O' Leary (chief exec. of Ryan air) speaking recently on radio. Her made the point that there were 2 banks in Ireland that had no charges whatsoever. Unfortunately I didn't catch the banks that he was referring to. I'm fed up of AIB's rates - though their online facility is pretty cool.

Anyone with any opinions they would like to share?

Ulster Bank may be one (though I'm correctable)

I'd say Michael O'Leary was referring to Merchant/industrial institutions in that statement, as oppossed to regular retail banking.

As for retail, I think the charges are much of a muchness. Obviously some banks specialise in certain sectors of banking and thus would be more competitive in that sector but it depends on what services you're looking for and what your status is.

If there is one great advantage of being student, it is NO bank charges

Get a savings account with Bank of Ireland and the only charge you pay is the stamp duty on the Banklink Card (all the banks charge this anyway).

Personal current accounts have the option of paying €11.43 (£9) per quarter + stamp duty.

New, business customers only pay stamp duty (on cheque books) for the first 2 years. Normal transaction fees after that.

Im with Ulster Bank, i have a Dual account with them and i dont think i have ever been charged by them for anything! I also know they have some of the cheapest interest rates for personal loans too!

On a related matter did anyone else notice that the govt. duty on a VISA card has gone up ??

I noticed it was debited from my account today at a cost of 19 euro. I dont ever remeber it being that high- thought it was about £10 last year!
