If you could go back at time, would you strangle Hitler at birth, bearing in mind that everything would change; cold war, u.s.s.r, nucleur war etc.

And you can't opt out by trying to talk him out of it or anything-kill him or nothing.

I think I'd leave him be, but I'm not sure.

Maybe this should be under humanities or something...

    Another interesting question is...
Would it be a mortal sin to murder a baby, if that baby was hitler?
That's a good question to pose to a priest hmm?

Gosh no, he is needed as a reminder of how corrupt and evil mankind can become.

Yes, - because I'm a great guy who will possibly save the world one day and in retrospect, with hindsight, it would be very difficult NOT to do this one "extremely good thing".

No, - because I have a conscience, and I'm not that interested in being a hero, don't have as big an ego as some people think and ... probably because I couldn't be arsed.

    --

    Uhhh... I'm confused...

the "don't knows" have it, as far as I'm concerned :)
    --

Now, if the question were "Would you go back in time and murder Hitler in 1945, the day before he took his own life?" - the answer would be a most emphatic YES.

    but "duhhh"

To misquote the Palestinian Peoples Liberation Front :

"Besides VWs, autobahns, submarines, and anti-tobacco research what have the nazi's ever done for us?"

You wouldn't need to strangle him, just let him into Art College, he can express himself there, instead of, the Art of Warfare...

That would be better, but as it has no bearing on OUR lives now, it dont' matter, the worlds population is smaller, we have better weapons, more technoligy, and countless more stuff because of hitler, 1 year of War makes industry move 3 years, you need something Faster, stronger, better, more powerful, war seems to be hand in hand with Industry. If Hitler didn't start the war, then Stalin could have.......

Good WW2 War Games, like DOD and MOHAA?

Well that's what happened in Command and Conquer: Red Alert. They want back in time and killed Hitler. Then there was this huge war between the allies and the soviets. Imagine a huge war between Eastern Europe and the USSR in an era where we are just trying to figure out how nuclear weapons work? Frankly, I think it's amazing we haven't completely obliterated ourselves already, and despite the mass-scale disgusting atrocities Hitler commited I wouldn't kill Hitler for fear of the complete destruction of the Human race.

That's always been my feelings on big 'disasters' caused by men. If it wasn't Hitler it would have been someone else. With every battle, war, or catastrophe, humankind gains a little more sense. In a simple irony, every battle contributes a little to permanent peace on this planet. :)

    (Sorry for getting all moral)

He did go to art college.

Adolf received a secondary education and, although he had a poor record at school and failed to secure the usual certificate, he did not leave school until 1905 when he was 16

Hitler took the two day entrance exam for the academy's school of painting. But failure struck him like a bolt of lightning. His test drawings were judged unsatisfactory and he was not admitted. Hitler was badly shaken by this rejection. He went back to the academy to get an explanation and was told his drawings showed a lack of talent for artistic painting, notably a lack of appreciation of the human form. He was told, however, that he had some ability for the field of architecture.

In 1907, Hitler went to Vienna Austria. in an attempt to fulfill his dream of becoming an artist. This attempt ended when he failed the entrance exam to the Academy of Fine Arts.

Hitler did not go to college, if I am wrong, prove it......

Funny you should start this thread because:

Adolph Hitler's mother seriously considered having an abortion but was talked out of it by her doctor.

Thats from a useless facts web site.

A more interesting topic is if you could go back in town would you kill castor troy.

No, because all the circumstances were leading to a war, hitler was just the catalyst. To leave that situation brewing even longer, possibly even to a point when nuclear weapons had been developed, could have been catastrophic.

Hitler did us all a favour, really.

As for Castor Troy, more than one person has tried to penetrate his security in the past, but to no avail...

The rotting corpses of small white Jeffy-esque kittens he keeps impaled on spikes on his shoulders should be warning enough to any who try to subvert his powers....

Anytime I ever find myself transported back in time I always remember the advice my father gave me on my wedding day.
"Son if you ever find yourself transported back in time dont disturb ANYTHING!You have no idea how it could shape the future" .
And for those of you who didnt know its a simpsons quote.

This was the question raised in the 3rd planet of the apes movie: espace from planet of the apes, which was on TV last Sunday. Although i think they phrased it as travelling back in time rather than town :)

Such deep moral and ethical questions and monkeys are a good mix

That's a bit extreme. Could we not just go back in town and BAN him?

As stated previously, Hitler was a failure in most of the thing he did... As a frustrated type of psycho, I think that re-education would have been a good thing. Brain washing as he was trying to do to him.

As far as I know, he was a charismatic leader who had, for a long time be manipulated by his party. Then he got out of hand, but he still had his party's support.

So? O would probably take him, and all his party and put them in the gas chamber if I caught them during the war.
If I can go back in time, I could probably go back far enough to catch them all as kids. I would then educate them differently.

But it is true that if it hadn't been Hitler, it would have been somebody else... There will, (I think) always be power hungry men who, high in a domination trip, will try to exterminate a part of the population. The reason for that being that eventhough we pretend our society is based on equal rights, it just all about power. Very few are those who manage to enter a relationship (any type of relationship) without establishing a dominant/dominated relationship. And everyday life is just about power, all the time, everyday, in work, in college, in the street, everywhere. Bite or be bitten, that's (unfortunately?) the rule.
