    Hey,

The ones I've seen only say yhey support opterons so I am wary about buying one.

have you seen this one http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=309471&cks=PRL
    Cpu http://www.shopbot.com.au/price/AMD-Athlon64-FX51-Socket-940-CPU-(Tray).html

The only problem with that mainboard is it takes ECC registered memory.
and its very $ if you ask me.

Why are you going for a sockett 940? and not just a 939?

I have the processor and the memory. My motherboard has gone poop thouigh, and I'd like one with PCI Express.

The question is do those socket 940 boards support FX-51.

(I like how you managed to avoid answering my actual question so well)

Came across this, and what I read, 940 boards support the FX-51, but only a few support PCI-Ex.

So are you saying that all 940 boards support the FX-51 (even if its not stated on the motherboards data sheet) but some of them dont suppor PCI Express (which is a given if they are AGP) or that some FX-51 processors dont support PCI Express (Which seems highly unlikely)

The general jist of it is:
    940 boards support the FX-51.
The majority of 940 boards do not support/have PCI-Express (Mostly AGP).
    Some 940 boards do support/have PCI-Express.

Another bit of awkwardness, 940 boards require ECC registered memory.

Finally, the bit you said about the CPU not supporting PCI-Ex is just silly, don't worry about that. :)
Oh, and if you're still unsure, google it. I did a quick check and that's what I've read on several pages.

so all socket 940 boards support athlon fx-51 processors is what you are saying.

Can you link some of the sites your got your info from if possible?

I need to be sure when I buy a motherboard.

Just one, on my way out so don't have time.

    Just google it yourself.

All socket 940 chipsets do support it. Only problem would be if a manufacturer didn't support the chip in the bios, which would be very rare.

Best thing to do, pick a couple of suitable boards, and look up their specs, and/or email them to verify.
