What second hand car to get for 10K mark?

Hi,

I'm looking into cars for my sister. She drives a '00 punto at the moment and is spending ridiculous amounts of money on repairs and problems so I want to find her something reliable for the 10K mark and a 1.4 litre (if possible!).

The fore-runner at the moment is a 02/03 SEAT Ibiza but i would be worried about its reliability. should i be? I know the Honda Jazz is meant to be the most reliable in this class but is it a good car?

Any advice?

Both Ibiza and Jazz are grand cars - neither known for being unreliable. Jazz is more expensive.

Thanks. Only complaints I've heard about the Ibiza is the stiff suspension makes you feel every bump. That's a flaw in our roads though, not the car! I used to drive an A3 and the gear box packed in on me at 34K miles, anyone know if the Ibiza uses the same gear box?

1.4 Litre Focus is a nice car. Handles great, well appointed and the old man had no problems with his over 70k miles.

It'd also be a slight step up from the punto size - wise, which is nice when u change cars. They also hold their value well and for my money the 99 - 04 are a nicer looking car than the new model one.

Polo, Tigra, C2

All cute and girly, Tigra only has 2 seats, the C2 looks better on the road and might be a bit pricey cos they're new, I'd try get a jazz if it were me, good car, well built and pricey for it's class so not that many people have them.

Thanks guys for all the advice. She has her mind set on a SEAT Ibiza, nice price and she can probably pick up a 03 for around 10K early next year. From what i can find out on the web it seems to be a reliable car, not as good as the honda jazz but then it is cheaper. I'll look into the cars you've posted....cheers!
