Not origionally from Dublin but living renting here for five years.
I'm 26 and no ties, no significant other etc.
Three seperate positions within my firm have come up and the two I am considering one in Carlow and the other in Kilkenny.
How would I find the change from Dublin to Carlow or Kilkenny?
What are the pro's and cons of each?
    Which is better?
Cost of living wise would it be that much cheaper?
My friends are in Dublin and I don't want those relationships to suffer too much but, realistically what would it be like commuting once or twice a week and staying with them for a night here or there?
Longterm i'd like to buy a place halfway between Dublin and one of those two towns so that the door would not be closed on a switch back to Dublin.
How many of you guys and girls commute to Dublin from comparable distances?

    Something about sandwiches

my sister used to work in a bank in town and was livin in carlow. she said her took her the same length of time to get up from carlow in the mornin as it took her to get from tallaght down the greenhills road into town. as regards livin in carlow, its a very small place and it'll get to u after a while if ur used to goin places in dublin as opposed to watchin tv or goin ur local, as thats all there is to do. very studenty town too.dunno bout kilkenny.

Depends what you do in your spare time I guess. I moved from Dublin to Galway nine years ago after spending 10 years there and haven't regretted it once. Kilkenny would be my choice - Carlow is ok but a bit quiet. Kilkenny has plenty to do and is near Clonmel, Waterford etc but easy to get to Dublin too. Its a lifestyle thing - I just got fed up sitting in a car for two hours a day and not being able to afford a house so I left. Don't move if your evenings are spent socialising or doing something you can't get in either town.

kilkenny beats Carlow hands down. Apparently people love the social scene in Kilkenny at the weekends. As for commuting from Kilkenny, I wouldnt like to drive it everyday, although I'm sure many people do. There isn't really a proper public transport link that gets you to Dublin before 9am. After Xmas, theres going to be a new early morning train to Dublin. Oh yeah, should mention the rent down here is pricey for a town that doesn't have a college, or thats not in the commuter belt...yet
