Inventions - What to do about them?

    The other day I just caught the end of an advert sort of thing on Discovery Channel with a link to their website showing you what to do if you have ideas about new inventions, unluckly I just missed the url as it was nearly finished.

    Ive heard of posting the idea to yourself by registered post to ensure you have proof you came up with it first, and also not to disclose it with anybody.

    But what do you do then? Anybody got any info? I have a few ideas, they arent really million dollar tickets but they aint too shabby, but wouldnt mind persueing it even if it turned to nothing.

    That's only in the US, under their law whoever invents something first has rights to it, not just whoever patents it first. Because of the legal standing of their postal system you can post the idea to yourself using registered post and keep the envelope sealed, or better yet send it to a 3rd party such as a legal firm. Afaik Irish law has no such protections. You should look at the patent office link above, if the invention is something you could form a company around yourself you could also talk to enterprise ireland, your local county council development office and have a look on that government website for businesses, basis.ie I think it's called.
