dvd copying/ripping for mac osx?

hi,

does anyone have any suggestions for programes to copy dvds or take portions from them? really what i want is something that can take a dvd and make it into a quicktime movie file, so i can put it into imovie or final cut and rework it?

thanks, i actually had already downloaded and tried this recently, and although the files will play on my computer (through vlc) i can't get them into imovie because of what the exported file type is (which is .vob).

so maybe the question is whats a good programe to extract dvd's to .mov files? i'm on the case for looking for converters, but i thought maybe someone else would've been through this already. i guess cuz to me it seems like an obvious thing to want to do? i dunno... if anyone has any idea...

Not that ive done it myself with Final Cut, but i assume all you need to do is get it into a .mov shell....

that would mean
1. demuxing the .vob to .m2v and audio stream (.ac3)
2. opening .m2v with quicktime (assuming you have mpeg2 playack component) and then just save as quicktime self contained.

you could probably mux the .m2v and audio to a .mpeg and then a saving it as a .mov with audio and sound, but doesnt FCP let you mux the audio and video tracks?

Never used FCP so im not sure how it works but you should be able to get the video into a .mov easily and then import it into FCP.

thanks. i just got this thing called Open Shiiva ( http://osdn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/openshiiva/OpenShiiva_v0.8.9.dmg ) it reckons it converts .vob into .mpeg4, which i think works like a .mov in final cut pro, and hopfully works in imovie too. still have to try it though.
