Hi, could anyone rcommend a good laptop for college for around e1000?
I'd really only use it for word processing, powerpoint, browsing, movies and music - for games i have a pc at home. I was hoping to get something small and light with 512ram and a long battery-life. I'd rather avoid dell because of a few bad experiences with them. Any suggestions?

Just got a dell Inspiron 6000 myself and well pleased with it.
1050€ with Pentium M740 (1.73 Ghz), 1024 mb ram, 60 Gig hd, 64 mb ATI X300 graphics, DVD RW
Pretty mobile for the spec compared to anything else I've used.

Depending on what college you're in, you can get a decent discount on certain laptops. I'm in UCC and I'm getting a 12 " ibookb for under a grand. will do me nicely for college and its nice n' wireless. All depends on your needs really

Yeah was thinkin of an ibook alright, not fussed bout macs but it is awfully handy and small.
I was thinkin of an Acer Aspire from komplett - lots of power, but its kinda big and the batt isnt great with 1.5 hours.
Was also thinkin of a sony vaio fs315, but its kinda got the same probs as the acer and the spec isnt really as good as a dell for same price.
