Everybody at some point hates their name. I used to hate mine with a passion. I'm still not overly fond of it. It's common and overly-used. I've got 3 buddies with the same name.

But Miss Piggy recently said something really sweet that made me think a little differently about my name. Shee said, "I love your name. Think about the way your mouth shapes to say it. It starts with a kiss and ends with a smile."

So, while I'm still not crazy about my name, I can look at it a little differently now, and I'll always remember, "it starts with a kiss and ends with a smile!"God bless you Miss Piggy.

I also kind of like my name because my Dad picked it out. He named me after a horse he won 75 pounds on the day I was born. For my birthday one year he gave me a betting slip with my name on it. I nearly wept.To this day that betting slip sits near my bedside locker where I can see it every day.

Now,c'mon boardsters let's hear some good things about your own names!

I quite like my name (Eoin) but it's far too common. Most of my friends would call me by my nickname almost by necessity as there are two Eoin's and an Owen in my main circle of friends and I also live with another Eoin. See? Far too common!

I like my name. It's Mareike. But I wish it were a bit more international, because in Ireland nobody could pronounce it, even it I told them how it is pronounced, they couldn't. But with an english 'r' it sounds pretty cool. :D

Mine's Eileen.. I like it, but it can get annoying when you meet people out and they start with the "Come on Eileen" like I've never heard that one before!
named after my grandmother (Ellen) and now my new niece is called Ellie! it's like 3 different versions of the same name!

i actually like my name but it's very rare i'll actually be called by it which i hate. note kids- never call your children Patrick. He'll definitely be called one of these:
Paddy-Pato-Pat-Rick-Ricky-Paki(sp? as in bonner)-Padraig. when someone actually calls me Patrick people look at them as if why are they being so formal. Then of course the oh so witty people with the paddy irish man/paddy's day etc......swe swe. Or even just the way some people pronounce it (american/australian accents) Seriously people dont do it to your poor children.

Its true that people insist an calling you by a nickname. if you havent guessed my name is Patrick and I really like that name but only my parents and my best friend call me by it. not even my girlfriend will use my proper name. I try and make people use it but it never works. here is a list of the names im called by different people: Paddy, Pat, Pa, Padge and Whack.

Why wont people use my real name?

I f**king love my name! :) It's not too common and not too rare either and it isn't a boring traditional Irish name.

I absolutely detest my surname tho'!

I hate both my first name and last name (Ciarán Kenny btw), just because it's Irish and very common. I've always planned to change my name when I'm 18.

My sister is called Chelsea, and she was named after Clinton's daughter. I've never understood why though.

I don't like my name... and I'm not overly fond of people abbreviating it.

I want to change my name to something cool like 'Hugo DeSelby' I reckon I'd make a good Hugo.

My middle name is pretty good though... it's Cosmos.

My parents had the right idea when they named me Fantastic Q. Wonderful the 3rd.

My name is a mess. My parents decided to call me by my middle name, which confuses a lot of people (including me) due to things like school enrolment, where my name automatically comes up as my first name (which is grand), so when i went to college, my id card was given to me under my first name, so in college, people know me by my first name, whereas people back home call me by my middle name.

But thats not all. My middle name sucks ass. I hate it. Every time someone says it in its entirety (ok, only 2 syllables, but still), it sends a shiver down my spine. But its also my dads name, and he hates it. When he was young, he got people to call him by an abbreviated version of it cos he hated it so much, so why they called me that name is beyond me. So, i got my parents to do the same for me - so my immediate family (and friends of theirs) call me by an abbreviation of my middle name.

So basically, i have 3 names that people call me by. Confused?

My name was an issue for me because I was born in Spain and at the time you could not be bauptised with any name not recognised by the Spanish church. To make matters worse, Spain doesn't recognise me as Spanish (my father was Irish and my mum is Spanish, which made me a foreigner by the law at the time... if my father was Spanish OR my mother was a foreigner I would be entitled to the citizenship).

Matters got worse when I tried to work in Spain just before the EU's free flow of workers and I was denied a visa, in spite of being two blocks away from where I was born.

Bottom line, I changed my name to the English translation at the first opportunity. I am pretty happy with my name: Stephen

I agree, both first and second name rare. First name is Irish and surname rare English/French surname. Must be the only one in the world

I love my name. Tis very unique and most ppl seem to think it's pretty cool, so it's fine by me. Only thing is, my second name doesn't really seem to "go" with Sebastian. I reckon I'll probably change my second name, or at least modify it slightly to make it complement my first name more!!! :D

My middle name's pretty cr*p as well, but then a lot of ppl's middle names are tbh...

    But "Sebastian"? Wicked.

I love my name since it's so rare and unique, I don't think I've actually met anyone with the same name.

I kinda like my name: Diarmuid.
It's fairly rare and all that which I like, but some people just can't say it properly. And not only foreigners but Irish people too. Some people say it with two J's! Jeermij.

Yeah, my mate had the same name, and he always got p*ssed off when ppl said Dermot instead of Diarmuid.
