Im sure everyone has seen the add for "three" mobile network.

You know the add where these women take out these balls that start playing music and then the cops storm the place......

How exactly does this have anything to do with a phone network and who in their right mind came up with this idea for the ad.

They look like some kind of musical sex aid for men.

    1) Television, or Advertising/Marketing.

    2) It got you talking about it, and you remember what service its for. Job done.

And the one where the cherry starts singing to the little girl freaks me out as well. Not an ad to be watched when your not in a sane state of mind.

Pointless attempted zaniness from some advertising suits whose craziest moments happened when the water cooler ran out of water. What a rush! What a day that was!

However, it has gotten a few people talking about it so perhaps they will have the last laugh. It's not exactly filling me with a burning desire to avail of theri service however.

    The M&M's ads are strange.

The ones like "Do you know why they are called M&M's, cos they've got M's written on them",
"Or you have to say what it reminds you of,....... Yellow submaire, baboons bottom........Chocolate",
"Someone in the house is stealin my M&M's"
or the one where they're in the cinema and yer man moves the packet (thats ones not too bad).

Althought I must agree that the 3 ads are very strange.

I miss the old Tango ads.

Now, THERE was well researched incomprehensible nonsense. Ah, better days, better days...

There was that, and the Napoleon fellow whacking people with a large orange kitchen glove, and the sprouts ad where someone gets kicked in the face by a donkey with orange slippers, and the clowns one, and the marketing people complaining about the clowns one...

Damn, there were a lot of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

Yeah the one where the dude got slapped and they replayed the action.

I do think the 3 ad is very odd though... I love the Cherry one. :)

the original had victim getting a slap on each ear, but they had to pull the ad as kids copied it and one lad perforated his mates ear drum doing it :o
It was replaced with the "tango man" kissing his unwitting victims.

3 are a Hong Kong company. A mate of mine was working over there when those weird 3 ads were originally shown on HK TV.

Apparantly they are hilarious over there because of the subtle word-play and double-meanings of the imagery which you don't get if you don't speak Mandarin.

I love the 3 ads -- especially the one with the women and the music sex toys :)

The other one I really like is the giant-hands girl who leaves her giant-hands village to play basketball in the big city, and then she gets collared just before she gets to slam dunk :D

The cherry one is my least favourite though, don't find it funny or interesting.

anyone remember the jaffa cakes ad with the teacher eating the cakes in front of all the kids.
    Full moon.....half moon....Total eclipse....and again.
    :D

A weird ad that I *HATE* is the stupid Finches orange one that's on in cinemas at the moment "Pour l'amour de l'orange" or whatever.

It's the black+white one with the French girl talking about how things would never work because she's a woman and the person in the chair she's talking to keeps changing, from men to a dog and then a bottle of Finches orange (in colour)

And she rolls around the place laughing, with a subtitle for "ha ha ha ha" and drinks the bottle. It's very irritating and just weird in a stupid way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,227 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

is that similar to the man in the french cafe with a bottle of finches and says something and the rest of the people shout back at him.

Haven't seen that one, but if it's b+w, it's probably all part of the same annoying strand of advertising

My fav ad at the mo is the club orange with the two irish lads and there like-lets kick sumthing off-and then everyone starts skipping-i think its the music i like though.
My fav ad though has to be the supermacs ad that they show usally on rte during matches with the fella running into the supermacs and the referees outside raise the white flag-its so crap its good!
