I woke up this morning and as the radio presenter said it was the last day of September, I remembered singing as a kid that the Good Ship sailed to the Alley-Alley-Oh on the last day of September.

Does anyone know the full lyrics to this?

    First verse was:

The Good Ship sailed to the Alley-Alley-Oh
    the Alley-Alley-Oh the Alley-Alley-Oh
The Good Ship sailed to the Alley-Alley-Oh
on the last day of September

There was a line in it I think like "The Captain said this will never, ever work" - I couldn't find any category in the music boards that this would fit, so here seemed as good a place as any! :)

THE BIG SHIP SAILS ON THE ALLY-ALLY-OH

The big ship sails on the ally-ally-oh, the ally-ally-oh, the ally-ally-oh,
Oh, the big ship sails on the ally-ally-oh, on the last day of September.

The captain said it will never, never do, never, never do, never, never do,
The captain said it will never, never do, on the last day of September.

The big ship sank to the bottom of the sea, the bottom of the sea, the bottom of the sea,
The big ship sank to the bottom of the sea, on the last day of September.

We all dip our heads in the deep blue sea, the deep blue sea, the deep blue sea,
We all dip our heads in the deep blue sea, on the last day of September

Are you sure it's the Big Ship, not the Good Ship? Or were there regional variations?!

Also, what the hell was the ally-ally-oh??

yeah, I think it can be Big ship too.
Just google either and you'll find it.
It's an old nursery song apparently.... never heard of it myself.
Was too interested in "My Little Teapot" and "Incy Wincy Spider" :D
