apple ipod: sexy but is it pc friendly?

I likes the look of it, and would consider getting one, but am unsure about compatibility. I know it uses FireWire, but how much would firewire cost to install and how easy is it to install on a pc?

the creative audigy sound cards have a firewire port built straight into it, the player versions are quite cheap
