Hey, Opera are giving away free registration codes today to celebrate their 10 years of browsers

    http://my.opera.com/community/party/reg.dml

Put in an email address and they'll give you a code for opera (multiple platforms)

Think it only happens today so you've about an hour left :)

    Excellent!!!

    Just downloaded and registered Opera.

I've been wanting to try this browser (ad free) for ages.

    Thanks Steveland?

Of course if you slightly missed the deadline and are wondring why no code is displayed simply knock you're system clock back a few hours - I assume this works until the whole globe has seen the whole of 30th of August...

    Cheers Steveland - legendary..

Just realised what a stupid sentence this was... unless we're all working on some sort of global clock...

I assume it runs until somewhere around 4am - 6am our time depending on where Opera is in the world...

Washing the dishes, feeding the cat, dance lessons, long walks on the beach, browsing the web*, growing potatoes. The list is endless.

    * May not be possible.

Checking cross browser compliancy of web sites during construction. I currently have about 6-7 different browsers for this including Opera. As I only use it for that and it isn't allowed internet access no adds are displayed.

Anyway only reason you need more than one browser is for website construction testing. Other than that just use Firefox unless you like spyware, adware, browser hijacks.

hmm reminds me really good new anti spy tool I found last night. I'll make a new thread on it.

    :)

After having tried it just there for approximately five minutes, I don't like it.

It's slower than Firefox, mucks up the drop down menus on boards and seems to constantly hang downloading something (probably that star-adserver again).

Yeah I'll have to agree Mozilla is so much better.

Opera is much faster then firefox, what are you talking about.

Loads up faster, has better 'back button' (like deer park alpha 2) Has mouse gestures built in, has a very nice loading bar, looks pretty nice.

Unfortunatly it mucks up the boards.ie drop down menu, and theres no 'autocomplete adress' in GMail.

    So close.....

Back to deer park alpha 2!

Hmm, actually I'm using Deer Park Alpha, not Firefox.

Haven't bothered installed DPA2 on my other machine, hence the mix up.

I have to agree that firefox is the better option and it is free...
plus it has adblock... could not live without it....

I actually hate Opera cos it just stalls when I view certain sites and there's some other niggles (used to stuff like ctrl+t to open a new tab in FF, keep doing it in Opera and getting the add bookmark dialog)

Still, handy to have to test websites in different browsers...

Ah well, offer's over now anyways

    nice one

i prefer firefox to opera, but still opera is a hell of a lot better than ie, and it has a nice feature that firefox doesn't (afaik) that you can resume your session if the browser crashes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,372 ✭✭✭Illkillya

... seems to me that the offer still stands, as it just gave me a reg code which I used to register Opera

Yeah, it's still there now. I'm so happy ^_^

I've been using Opera for about 4 years now, so I've got too used to it. AFAIK it's the only browser that actually conforms to the W3C standards - that can't even be said for Firefox! Unfortunately, the same can't be said for all websites, so not everything's perfect.

I don't like Firefox - I remember when it first became popular and was the thing to talk about, but as Opera was already better than IE and had all this functionality (and more!) over a year before the final release of Firefox 1.0, I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I tried it, but I found having to download all these plugins to make it even remotely as functional as Opera was just a pain in the hole and just made things more complicated - not to mention the lack of e-mail, newsgroups and RSS feeds (well I couldn't see any RSS stuff anyway 0_o). Opera's like some sort of magical everything-in-a-box in comparison to Firefox. I couldn't recommend it more.

I agree i need 3-4 extensions with firefox to make it as functional as opera, and extensions slow firefox down somewhat, and TBH firefox crashes way more than opera, tho that could be the extensions making firefox crash, and i like the download manager that opera has a bit more than firefox's.
