    windows/linux client?
are you sure there is free space on the disk/FAH client has premission to write there?

Running Win98, so there are no permissions to worry about. I had one WU complete, a really long one, but since that I have had three fail at 100%... I'm considering reinstalling it but I don't know if that'd help or not...

    RonanH, are you overclocking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 RonanH

HeHe... wish I could, have a ****ty PIII 833Mhz, work pc. I even shut everything else down last night to make sure that F@H was the only thing running on the pc, still bombed out on me.

My display is showing 156 days to complete a work unit!!!Has anyone had it take this long to complete one? Have a look at the attachment!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,780 ✭✭✭JackieChan

No worries, I gave the PC a kick and its now saying 3days to finish...not great but far better!

Hey JackieChan, unless you can't bear to part with your 3D images, you should probably try using the text-only console version

RonanH, try deleting your 'work' folder, your 'queue.dat', 'unitinfo.txt' as well as your core (something like FahCore_78.exe). Start the client again and it will download a new core and a new work unit.
After a quick google, it seems as though running Norton firewall with F@H might cause a few issues, especially when Norton Liveupdate is running.

    109? I'm only getting warmed up. :)
There's about another 20 cpus to report in yet. I'm burning in a new os/kernel on my cluster and this is a handy way to test them out. I'm also testing the air con (seriously).

I'm in a healthy 4th position, be in second in a couple of weeks.

Catching ianoc just isn't going to happen though.
July 12th i think is the forecast date for ye to overtake me, i'll be going back up to 40 odd cpu's soonish, but at 130cpu's u'll easily manage to overtake me :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,744 ✭✭✭deRanged

I don't think I'll be able to use them all for folding for long enough to take and hold the top spot. Second is good enough for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭neGev

Don't listen to his fables about testing out kernels or aircon systems, what he really does is mug unsuspecting CPU's that witlessly wander down dark alleys at night.

my pcs for some unknown setting have gone on a go slow.... from 1800 points per week to 400 so the older machine are goin into retirement again once they finish whatever workunit they are getting on with. #

my goal was to pass out that MS team n thanks to ye lads thats well done now.

I will continue to contribute but I dont see the reason in floggin half dead pcs for weeks only to get a few units from them

    AWaaay da team Boi

Gone quiet on this thread... just in case you didn't know, the console version of the client v5.02 which is only stated to work on NT/2000/XP works really well on Win98. For me it is much more stable than the version 4 client. Give it a go if you're using the earlier client on '98.

    Ronan

Might be able to set it up on a few more pcs in the next couple of days too :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,744 ✭✭✭deRanged

I had to stop the client on 100 cpus the other day. I'm down to about 20 now and I was making great progress!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭neGev

Just a little personal update - some bar-steward at work seems to have blocked off the connection to the F@H servers and for the moment, I've no net connection for my other comp, so I'm dead in the water... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 275 ✭✭BugBlaster

yeah seems like you can download some TYPES of units and they will report back the result.... like the tinker proggie..

Meh, still trudging away here on my single cpu.
That gpu client sounds sweet though, if they ever release it that is. (that thread has gone very quiet on the fah-community forum.)
Maybe it'd be a chance for people with decent gfx cards to catch up on the sys admins that have 500 old pentiums folding for them :p
