Carry on spanking on Ladies Beach?

A bizarre request to female swimmers to give an elderly man a good spanking sounds as if comes straight out of a Carry On film, but it is actually happening on Ladies Beach in Salthill.

Ladies Beach is second only to Blackrock in terms of popularity as a swimming spot and the beach has its own community of regular all-year-round bathers. It was two such regular swimmers who noticed the following bizarre incidents this week.

Some women were taking a dip this week when they noticed an elderly man carrying a stick approach the shelter in Ladies Beach, take off all his clothes, and wave his stick at the swimmers. Perturbed by his antics the swimmers remained in the water until he eventually left.

The following day they returned for their swim only to have the same experience -- the man arrived, disrobed, waved his stick and left. Again they remained in the water until he was gone but they noticed he had left a note beside their clothes. The note was addressed "To the ladies" and informed them that the next time they saw him, they should not be afraid but should feel free "to give me a spanking".
