My name is Siobhán (Irish for Joanne, Joan and Sarah). My Mam and Dad thought it would be funny having two kids with the same name in my family. My sisters name is Joanne.

I wonder why Siobhan has to be Irish for anything and why not just an Irish name....

Anyway, mine comes from Brian Boru.

Born on the day that Galway won their third football final in a row. Named after the captain (Enda Colleran) on the insistance of a Galway Granddad. In a way I was lucky... 25th September in St. Finbarrs day... (I'll have the Cork gang after me for that!!!)

My mother orginally wanted to call me UG. Yes thats right "UG". But then my father persuaded her to call me Adam instead. Don't know why they called me Adam... maybe they got bored after the 2nd page of The Book of Baby Names and settled on Adam that way...

I was named after a lesser know irish saint. But my mam decided it was too long a name for a child to spell so shortened it...
Therefore I have a name that no one knows & spend my days spelling it for everyone - much to the amusement of my work colleagues..

My parents just liked the name "Niall". Nothing to do with my uncle or some great great grandfather or other having the same name...

Alastair. My Dad wanted to call me Matthew after a Great Uncle who died at the Somme in 1917 aged 17 years (met the business end of a shell, very sad) but my mam objected because she thought everyone would call me Matt or Mattie. My mother had lived in London for a while before she was married and liked the name Alastair, so that's what I was called.

My name's Ailbhe. My parents wanted us to have Irish names (I have a sister and brother called Aisling and Rory)... They were going to call me Ciaran if I was a boy. When I turned out to be a girl they considered names like Sadbh and Fionnuala but Ailbhe was the only one they could agree on, so that's what I got. Unfortunately it is a name that people always spell and pronounce wrong

    'Gary'

Well i suppose they just liked it, there's no other Gary's in my family
I did hear though it was between Gary and Wayne...thankfully they didn't pick Wayne, i don't like that name!

I think my parents named me after the James in the bible (I think thats where they got the idea for my name anyway). Middle name is Sebastian after the saint. I would've been called Sophie had I been a girl

Haven't a clue where they got the name from, but they would have probably given me the same name if I'd been a girl.
