Musician for mod would definitely get my vote. Wasn't this forum his idea in the first place. His support and involvement in this forum since the very beginning is worthy of a moderator. Balanced voice, good player. No offence to the other mods, but their presence has been conspicuous by its absence for the last while.

    BRIAN FOR MOD!

And you were going so well up to that point!

Luke and Muso would get my votes too.

I really think that any sub-forum made should be purely to focus on theory/tactics. A bad beat forum is just somewhere to put stuff that shouldn't be posted anyway.

The general forums serves well for announcements, who's coming to the fitz, look at this funny hand, home games and it could be newbie friendly on the posting of bad beats etc.

With a theory subforum people would have a choice in the way they want to discuss their poker.

[edit]I think it would also serve as a kind of impetus for people to try to think a bit more clearly and logically about the game. Rather than, you know, staying stupid all their lives. [/edit]

you should probably make it 'Advanced theory and tactics'... you never know the questions some people would view as theory questions ;)

Thanks I'll be in with that money later. As has been said Amp is a busy bee and it's too much to expect him to look after it. When the forum was setup as I was a Mod already it was decided to make Chris the Mod which was fine with me. He has been an excellent Mod, planning and organising the BSOP for one, but he needs a bit of help I think as we all have lives to live beyond the crazy pages of Boards and with the Unreal board being defunct I'm available to do the job. I would also be fine with the other names mentioned here but I think the final word should go to Tom in any case so we'll see what he says.
As to the sub-forum it would have to be of the serious nature as it's far easier to send people with serious topics to a sub-forum than a one-time poster with a bad beat story.

    Well i have to say,
    (deep breath)

[rant]All the moaning some people are doing around this forum lately is by far the best way from stopping new members/players from posting here. I'm playing about 4-5 months, and a member here just as long, and sometimes almost afraid to post something about a particular hand or a particular beat because the same people type the same things "ffs", "idiot", "not another one of these threads".

If the layout of the forum is to change, great, it could probably be broken down to a couple of categories. But the problem is not its layout, its the people who have graduated to the level of I think I'm a god and my word is law making no needed smart ass comments to the newer members.
I like this board, and I've had the fun of meeting someof its members and value what they have to say. But if the b!tching and moaning doesn't stop, i couldn't be bothered reading it anymore. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that thinks that.

    right rant over...
i'm going to tin tins for a chinese...

    yum.

um I made Muso mod before I read most of this. which is fine cos now it looks like I'm being all responsive to peoples wants 'n' sh*t. so muso is now mod. Luke didnt say he wanted to be mod but if he does that works too and I'll do that. probably when I;m sober.

Thanks Dev. So whats it to be? A Bad Beat sticky or renaming of posts? Bearing in mind that the renaming may not occur in time to save Karl's life.

How about the posters should include bad beat in the thread title or face the wrath of muso?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,990 ✭✭✭accensi0n

Make it a bad beat sticky. If you make the rule to be that you must write 'bad beat story' in the thread title, only the current readers of the forum will know to do it; there will still be new readers coming along and posting their bad beats without including 'bad beat story' in the thread title.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,250 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dub13

Part of the problem is that some of these post are not even 'bad beat storys' they are outdraws....and the last time I checked outdraws were part of poker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

Yea, you're still going to have a problem with first timers and stubborn tools not adding to the sticky or putting 'bad beat' in their titles. I personally think a sub forum called 'poker stories' (not even mentioning bad beats, etc) would work a little better. Just a sub that states "you got a hand? post it here" kind of thing.

Then again, I'm not a mod, and no matter what my mother thinks, that's not likely to change in the future. :p

I dont see how anyone would expect posters to go to a sub forum if they dont expect them to title a post a certain way or post to a sticky. I think for now I'll just keep an eye on posts and mark them accordingly when I spot them. Unfortunately this means we must sacrifice Karl for now.

Put it in the charter and wave your big ban stick accordingly! All hail MUSO!

I for one welcome our new overlord.

I think a Poker stories subforum is a good idea. What we want to avoid though, however, is turning this into an elitist forum unfriendly to new players who let's face it will post cringing tales of naivité. We were all new players once.

I've read most of the threads in this forum and it seems to be a good mix, I think some of the problems mentioned have been over-exagerated.

Lastly, If anyone see a post that does break the rules please report it. I review all reported posts everyday.

If you call it Poker stories people could think that includes tournamnet reports/moaning/etc. It would also push any interesting hand discussions into this forum which is not what people are suggesting afaik.

Maybe a 'Venting' forum where could complain about someone knocking them out of a tournament with Q3 or could post their 'bad beats' could work. But i'd still like to see any serious/detailed/(not full of whinging) reports and hand analysis posts not in that forum.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 158 ✭✭BrendanB

My take would be that it'd be a mistake to confine proper discussion to a sub-forum, if for no other reason than that it would encourage new visitors to boards to believe that whinging about their 'feeling about this pair of aces' is a normal and sensible reaction, representative of players in Ireland, and thus contributing to the decline in conversational skills in poker players.

Perhaps a long sticky to post bad beats would also achieve the goal of reinforcing the fact that in the vast majority of situations, truly nobody cares, and while there might be a cathartic benefit (and I've posted some), seeing the forum dominated by it is sad.

On a side-point, is it possible that some recently joined members could take a deep breath and hold in the 'love me, love me, inferiority/superiority, I've found something I'm good at after all these years, why don't people look up to me complex' that's oozing out of their pores. Seriously lads.

While many other things would make me happier, this would add somewhat to the good of the world.

And congratulations Muso, I knew you had it in you :)

Best of luck Muso; an excellent choice for Mod.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,887 ✭✭✭Marq

After considering much of this post I think the idea of confining all bad beat stories to a single sticky is the best of the bunch. I think what Brendan says makes sense, and there should be a rule in the rules sticky stating that bad beats should either be posted on the sticky or will be moved there/deleted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

Think a bad beat sticky is a great idea, not quite as good as the 1550 BADBEAT hotline but itll do
