    I just found this....

"If Feilim O'Maolain is successful, he will become the first person to complete a 56-mile solo swim between Holyhead and Dublin."

well I know the woman socially too and she did it for charity, I think she went from Rosslare to Fishguard or something...

Yeah if this chap does it he will be the first ever to do it. Many have done the English channel swim and many have attempted the irish sea swim but nobody has ever made it. Was he not leaving at 9:30 last night though? As in Sunday night?

So it's a first as per the route taken, not the actual act itself. God, will he not freeze?! I hope he's wearing some sort of wet/dry-suit because 45 hours in the water is not good for keeping the core body temperature at a healthy 37°C! Hypothermia is a very real danger even in the middle of summer time, plus all the blood will start to flow away from his extremities, meaning it's going to be tough going on the 'oul arms and legs... You'd have to be one tough person to pull that off. Respect to him whoever he is, I know I wouldn't try that!

Just found this info on The Guardian site....but its about his attempt last year.

"The 36ft Festina Lente, the boat accompanying O'Maolain, will be captained by marine navigation lecturer David Gerrard, of Dun Laoghaire, and his crew of six, who are giving up their free time."

The rest of the article can be found Here

Where did you get Ye Olde Map of the british isles? Is there another part of wales somewhere else in the world? The whole lot of it is labelled "north Wales" on that map.

StenaLine do regular crossings... he could be there and back by now.
    What a cheap bastard. :(

The channel has been done loads of times. Its a similar distance so its basically the same. Someone needs to swim the atlantic, now that would be an achievement. People need to startthinking bigger,

not 100% getting full details of it and she attempted the Irish Sea solo last year but had to stop due to weather conditions

He did the Atlantic one. The Irish Sea is easy in comparison so this guy obviously didnt drink any Guinness before setting off.

Also Le Rack, in response to your question. Because I am super. To find out more send your details on a self addressed private message to Winters

now there's your answer to this whole argument. she attempted it but had to stop, the article said people had tried it before and failed. the guy that attempted this now did it 11 years ago as part of a relay team, but it has NEVER been done solo.

he swam from the aran islands to Galway before which is 24miles.you would have to be a super athlete to complete the irish sea crossing solo.56 miles is a hell of a long way to swim.
