Ah, the old coin toss. Never fails.

I don't know anything about how I got my name, but I do remember how my younger sister got her name.

The Irish Times was the paper of choice on the day, and all the names in the paper were suggested, but none chosen, until it came to the very last name mentioned in the paper. So that name was chosen instead of continuing searching elsewhere. :)

Heehee you could have shortened it to 'Duke' :D My two made my bloody name up - thanks guys. When I have a kid it'll have a normal name that you can buy on those keyring stands in town, that can't be spelt wrong or pronounced wrong or have people saying its unusual...

Never thought of that! That would have been pimparific! Duke Grace.... I kinda like the sound of that, I could've been a jazz legend with a name like that! (either that, or a pimp!)

Got told this a few years ago , not sure if it's true , but i like it =).

Apently the Eldest son of the eldest Son is named after his grandfather.

thing is i've a uncle with the same name.

Always makes it confusing till i got to about 9, he is now known as Jimmy =)

Haven't a clue where they came up with my name, I think they read it somewhere or from someone famous, Im thinking Keith Richards here, but they weren't rolling stones fans, so I seriously doubt it.

Although I have a double middle name named after my father and my uncle. Although I only ever use my first name.

Father wanted me to be called Adam, he still cant explain why though.
    Mother wanted me called Barry.
He won out in the end, thankfully, I just dont look like a Barry.
She had to settle for that being my middle name instead.

    I named myself.

My parents had pieces of paper with names on them and the one I seemed to like the best became my name..(don't ask me how I did it - must have flapped in a certain direction or something)

Point is, I can never complain about my name because it's my choice!

What made-up name did they give you?

I was named after Mareike Carrière, and because my parents have heard the name Marijke in the netherlands and they liked the sound of it, so they took the german variant of it.
I like my name, because it's a variant of Mary, my surname is a variant of Nikolaus (Santa Claus), and I was born on All Saint's Day.
Makes me very holy, doesn't it? ^_^

All my Dad's side of the family are boys so they thought I'd be a boy. They chose Odhrán if it was a boy and they found the feminine for Odhrán was Odharnait. So I'm Odharnait!

My mother just liked the name! so meaningful!

Bit of a pain seeing as a ridiculous amount of girls born between 1981 - 1985 were called Sinead! There were 7 Sineads in my leaving cert class!
