Best place for drinking in Galway during race week is your own house. The pubs are massively over-crowded, there's tossers everywhere, you can't even get a shaggin' seat in your own local. That's why I'm off to Germany to sample some of the WeiBbier instead this year!

And I agree with Sarky on Sally Longs. It's still fine during the week or in the afternoon but it's not the pub it was on a Friday or Saturday night any more

if you're around salthill you should call into the jamesons opposite the church. tis usually a big crowd and good craic for the races.

Ugh. Jamesons, my younger brother worked as a barman there for a good while a few years ago, many idiots and pricks flock there during the races. Avoid, young grasshopper! As for where to go, it depends what type of person you are and what scene you dig. I'll be outside the Vineyard with some vodka concoction early in the evening, then on to Halo most nights this week. Might even visit the Living Room and the Front Door at some stage. I imagine most Boardsies would HATE those places. Not looking forward to my long drive down this evening after work, though I will get to visit glorious Moate and wonderful Loughrea, so it won't be all bad...:D

i worked there for the past 4 summers, everyone said the races were good there though i was in a zombie state due to being completely overworked.

you'd be hard pushed to get into any pub by the look of Quay street last night. your best bet would be to grab a few carry outs and plastic glasses as was already suggested
