Hey i know this isnt the correct place to post but i need an answer fairly quickly and this is the place to be.

I just received my Sony DCR HC 42E from pixmania today and everything was present and accounted for. That was until I looked at the power cable which is the European 2 pin plug one. WTF!!! It was on the Irish site of pixmania did they make a mistake or is that the way all the power Ac's are? I emailed them straight away but no return answer yet. Is it just a case of bad luck I don’t really want to go through the hassle of sending it all back because of a €5 power cord

    Suggestions??????

    Pixmania use mainland EU stock.
It helps keep the prices down if they don't have to worry about those still living in the empire.

Why would you send the whole thing back?

A €2 adaptor is all you need.

Or just snip the thing off and fit a 3-pin plug yourself. Alternatively if the lead is of the common mini IEC type you can just buy a new lead with a moulded 3-pin plug on it for a few euros from Peats or such like.

No, shaver adaptors are smaller and are genuinely a global standard.

EU 2 pin adaptors have a larger space between the pins.

Any home hardware shop, electrical retailer, aeroport etc.
Frankly I'm a little concerned you never seen one before, most people own several.

in saying that, they should have supplied a 3 pin socket, or a new cable.
the last time i ordered something off komplett it came with a 2pin and a 3pin cable, they also threw in a 3pin plug for the "just in case factor"

In their T&C they say that they will supply an adapter when needed...I bought from them a number of times and the do supply the adapter but 1 time they forgot to pack it and refunded me €3.......I got one in a local shop.

This happened to me when I ordered a monitor off Pixmania...I gave them a ring as like the OP said its a bit daft sending it to an address in ireland without mentioning the need for an adaptor.

I rang them and they said would send me an adaptor or else re-imburse me for one (!) and they did both, re-imbursed me and sent one by DHL which arrived 2 days later!!

firewire cables vary in price a whole lot around Dublin... I ended up getting one off http://www.marxcomputers.ie for something like 6 quid - they've got 4-4 or 4-6 pin. I've been using it on a DCR HC32E without problems

Just looking at that site now the delivery is more than the cable but still 14.50 is a hell of a lot better than 25!!!

€25 is a joke i actually thought he was talking about a a firewire card and cable when he said it!!!

Just jam a plastic pen into your earth pin which opens up the other 2 pin holes, then plug it in.

Probably easier in the long run to buy the adaptor. I do that with my solder iron :)

Replace the 2cable with a 3 pin cable, usually used for hifi's etc. I had same probelm and I did the above. Works the same.

Or, like I said, just change the plug. Easy peasy.

Aldi had them for €3 or €4 a while back..

I can remember when printer cables were £30 each at a time when you could get them for just under £1 in bulk
