This is a bit like that 'are you a cat or dog person', but with hens and ducks. This came up a few days ago chatting to a couple of mates as to which they'd prefer as pets.
Some prefered chickens. They'll give you eggs, eat anything, and if you're hungry you can have them for dinner. Others prefered ducks, mainly because they've got more of a personality and more humourous.

Me, I prefer ducks 'cause they're funnier

So what would you prefer as a pet (or a roast dinner in the end) - chickens or ducks?

ducks have more personality, but hens lay nicer eggs and go better with curry sauce.

    Ducks!
    They're much more entertaining.
They swim, fly & walk & some of them are gay!
& when they're swim swim swimming round sometimes they 'duck' under the water & then pop back up & do a big ol shake as if they weren't gonna get wet while swimming in a pond!

    & they taste really good!

Get a mallard, give him a bowtie and name him daffy.

    Sorted.

Though you could name a rooster foghorn leghorn.

    Choices, eh?

I like both ducks and chickens, but I had to vote chickens. They're funny and can be really intelligent. When I was younger I had this sort of, "pet hen" at my uncles farm, and she was really tame, which is unusual for poultry. This chicken knew commands like "stay" and was really unlike any other chicken I've seen. :p

once off, but then almost anything can be trained to such commands given effort time and patience

True, but she was a good pet in many other ways.
I still prefer chickens. Ducks are great to watch swimming in a pond, but chickens are funnier. It's surprisingly good fun to fight off a crazy cockeral and hens sometimes remind me of grumpy old women.

    ducks are infinitely cooler

Ducks are cool, they've got this whole attitude thang going on.

Chickens are odd and peck. Unnerving almost.

    Duck eggs are huge!

Ducks for pets. Chicken for dinner :D Altho, duck don't taste too bad either! Hmmmm

Thats a bit of at thinker :p

I got 5 or 6 ducklings when I were small. We had a farm so there were plenty of room for the little guys.
One day my sisters and I dug a hole about two foot square, filled it with water and put the ducklings in it. We went away thinking they were happy. Came back 10 minutes later to find two of them had drowned :(
So, now when I hear that expression 'if I had ducks they'd drown', I think back to that time when I had ducks and they drowned.

I can confidently say i've never had a bad duck dish... but to say the same about chicken would just be a blatant lie! :D
