So, post your puzzles in the puzzles/quizzes forum. We need more activity over there.

What happens if the poster is a newbie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,423 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

    "Depending on circumstances".

This comes up when i opt to report a post.
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
This doesn't seem to fit in with the description, but if you really want us to use that function i'll do it a bit?

Those wishing to engage in off-topic nonsense can do so in the Cuckoos Nest. In fact the more off-topic the better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,850 ✭✭✭Cianos

Ok...slightly confused here. So what exactly is not considered off-topic in After Hours? Is it JUST topics that dont fit anywhere else? If the poster genuinely feels that it is more suited to After Hours than another forum (even though the Mod may think otherwise), what then?

And how does one differentiate between what is for the cuckoos nest, and what is for After Hours, if your charter says that "Off topic nonsense should be put in the cuckoos nest"

Stuff without a point goes in the cuckoos nest. Like "Say something about the poster after you". It has no real point (or end), it goes in the Cuckoos Nest.

After Hours is for stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere else. That Star War Asciimation thread *could* go in Star Wars, but there's no reason why it can't go here, it's entertaining as opposed to being purely about Star Wars. Stuff like "What if Darth Vader wasn't Luke's father?" (this thread doesn't exist) would obviously go in Star Wars.

If there's a disagreement between you and a mod, the mod wins, unless you can convince him otherwise.

See thats what I mean...it seems very loosely defined what is and isnt allowed. Ok...I'm sure for the mods and other seasoned users it is quite clear, but for those who havent clocked hundreds of posts, the enforcement of what is and isnt allowed (and thus the punishment for breaking the "rules"), seems down to the rash impulse of the moderator. I respect the fact that AH must be an annoying forum to moderate, due to its nature, but it would certainly help if things were clearly defined.

A simple way is if it's relevant to another forum, post it there. Try that. Such as the Playa del Ingles(SP.), that could have been in the travel

Nope. Clearly defining things would be less helpful, as then you'll have people trying to point out loopholes and "beat the system" as it were.

It's not that difficult to find the right forum.

the mods on this forum have a terrible hard job - just noticed that you've had to re-direct about four posts in 20 mins! this should be called the gatekeeper forum!

Do you really think people would be arsed? So are you confirming that things arent clearly defined, and for that reason? Thus do you think it is a bit uncalled for to ban people, considering things arent clearly defined?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,423 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

I confirm that the rules deliberately err on the side of being non-specific rather than specific in order to stop people nitpicking and looking for loopholes.

I think that it is not uncalled for to ban people given that things aren't "clearly defined". Your definition of what "clearly defined" is probably differs from ours.

And now I shall ban someone for "stupidity".

Ignorance/Laziness is no excuse. Admitting "I couldn't be arsed" may get your ban upgraded to permanent.

LOL...excuuuuse me! What is this, confession?!

You actually missed my point, I was asking do you really think people would be arsed trying to find loopholes in the defined parameters, so they could get away with posting off topic threads? Like, I didnt think people would really get off on doing that. Maybe you think otherwise.

Your arguing on a hypothetical situation. Jus let it go, **** the rules, just use common sense and you'll stay out of trouble

So if I write a post about a dog with cancer that is learning to drive using a COBOL interface, which forum does it go in?

    programming
    health
    personal issues
    pets
    motors
    after hours
and possibly humor depending on if the dog looked funny while he was doing it

In my experiance, as mod of this board for almost 6 years now(that long...yikes)...people can be arsed and frequently are always looking for loopholes... thier just too damn lazy to put things on the right board

Simple fact, your less likely to be banned from this board now than say a year or two ago when i had more free time...ask any of the oldermembers...other mods have been my victims in the past.

Just because im not as active a mod as i was dosent mean im not here watching...
